Got it absolutely right the first time! 😀 "Pepper-oh'n-CHEE-nee" In textbook Italian, C immediately followed by I or by E will "aspirate" the consonant, giving you that "Ch" sound, such as you hear in the chorus of "Angels We Have Heard On High" (at Christmastime): "...in Ex-CHELL-sseess Day-oh." That's in textbook Italian. Then you sit down with some classmate's Italian granddad from this or that region of Italy and find out you and he speak two completely different-seeming Italian languages! C immediately followed by A, O, or U sounds like a K. Totally with you on the Teddy Bear Sunflower: really pretty, and kind of weird-looking at the same time. Interesting, that I never think in terms of seed *hauls,* but when a seed order of any size arrives, I sit down to open the package, and then I touch and admire each packet, almost...almost as if they were as precious as a newborn baby. When I see seeds breaking the surface of the soil, I get positively giddy and am nearly as excited as a child on Christmas morning. For me, watching my food plants grow is somehow more gratifying than the actual harvests. We did put in a couple of large-ish orders, one in December or 2023 and another one in very late December, 2023, and then realized we'd left some holes in those so we've been patching the holes with smaller orders as we've become aware of the deficits. (Take an inventory??? Make lists??? Oh, those good intentions wherewith the road---- I bet you can finish that sentence.) This year, the excitement for growing is about growing several varieties of rutabaga; a dried bush bean (Calypso); Greek Gigantes beans (giant white runner bean); one of the fava/broad bean varieties (for soil enrichment, either Ianto's or Aquadulce, I don't recall off the top of my head); and a cowpea (Red Ripper) or dried soup pea called Bill Jump's Soup Pea; some old favorite cabbages and one or two new ones (new to me) plus Golden Beauty Chinese cabbage; and I know I have several other brassicas I'm keen to grow and right now I'm not remembering any of them. Much gardening love to you from Ohio! 😊 💚💚💚😊

@bhalliwell2191 Thanks for clearing that up for me 😂. And for taking the time to explain iItalian pronunciation- I just learned so much from your comment! It's so great to hear that other people are just as excited about the promise that seeds bring as I am. I've never actually grown any of the varieties you mentioned, but I've heard of most of them. Thanks for giving me more to add to my future growing list! 💜

@@thegrownpath It *is* the promise that seeds bring and that seeds are, isn't it? And every single time a seed's sprout breaks the surface of the soil, I know I'm witnessing the order and the miracle of life, and it thrills me. Every time, every single time, it thrills me. Much gardening love from Ohio! 😊💚💚💚 😊

Love your haul and how excited you are--it's something only gardeners really understand. ❤😂 I watch both Jess and Luke too! Fantastic channels, lots of great info. It's hard to describe and I can't speak for Aunt Molly's, but I've grown a variety of ground cherry (Little Lanterns) and they taste kind of like a tomato and a sweet grape? They're really good, so I'm definitely interested to see how you do with them.

@RavenFirewind thank you! I'm really excited to try my first ground cherry. Fingers crossed they go well. And thanks for the variety suggestion- I'm adding it to my running list of seeds to try.

If you want the little pumpkins for fall plat the end of June. We had a family friend who was a pumpkin farmer who told us that

@serresaschrock2359 Thanks for the tip. I planted some pumpkins over the summer last year and they were ready at the perfect time. They were larger than these little guys, so I appreciate the advice- especially passed on from a pro.

I just got my seed haul from MIGARDENER yesterday. I have 3 more coming in; one from Baker Creek, one from Restoration Seeds, and one from Pinetree. Maybe I shouldn't admit to the previous hauls I've already gotten. 😂
@thegrownpath10 ай бұрын
@andraroberts9029 Multiple hauls doesn't sound like a problem to me, just lots of great solutions 😂. I've never heard of Restoration Seeds or Pinetree, so I'll have to check them out.

You should check out Emma's Allotment Diaries. She had a video showing recipes using the Jack be little pumpkins. She cut the top off and got seeds out like you normally do a pumpkin and then stuffed them with different things. Can't remember the name of the video but if I can find it I'll let you know.

I can't edit comments on my tablet so had to just add. Little tip, just one ground cherry plant will give you loads! I planted two and had hundreds of them! They also will always come back on their own. Mine got HUGE!! Bigger than anyone I've seen anybody have on KZbin. Where I planted them had had chicken manure put down so maybe that's why. Anyway, I wasn't expecting them to get so big and produce so many. You also need to make sure they are 100% ripe or they don't taste good. Sorry for the long comment! This is the first time I've seen your channel. I'll go back and watch more!

@kimberlyearly8918 Thanks for the tip to check out Emma's Allotment Diaries. I definitely will look for that video. Anything that gives me another excuse to grow those adorable pumpkins, I'll take it! 😂 And thanks for the ground cherry tips. I've never grown them before, only seen other people grow them on KZbin. I'm really excited to try them. Oh, and for future reference, I happen to LOVE long comments.😀 It helps me feel like I'm really getting to know people.
