Am i roughly understanding Shemot (Exodus) to actually mean "listen/hear/obey"?? What does the T at the end of the word signify?

shemot means "names"! shema does mean "hear/listen", but it's not related to the word shem (name). -ot is the plural ending. it comes from the opening of the book, a list of names. the same is true for all of the other hebrew titles: bereishit (in the beginning), shemot (names), vayikra (and god called), bamidbar (in the desert), and devarim (words)
