Lifelong student of martial arts here, I love your videos and your depth of knowledge. But even more I love this interaction with your beautiful cats. I have watched the moment at 50 seconds over and over and it warms my heart.

In college years ago I read a book that mentioned the Chinese of the Qing Dynasty developing a long sword (the Miao Dao) as a response to Japanese raids on their coasts (that is, stealing the idea of the Samurai’s famous weapon, making it just a little bigger, and using it against them). I’m not sure if that is the whole story or not. Watching this video, I’m struck by the emphasis on the Dan Tien, because in Japanese sword arts this is also the heart of katana technique. I’m not suggesting this was also adopted from the Japanese (as the Dan Tien is very important in all Chinese martial arts), I’m just pointing out similarities. Excellent video, as always. Thank you, maestro!
@DanteBasili7 ай бұрын
Ciao David. Yes, this is precisely the origin of the Miao Dao that we all practice. The story of General Qi Jiguang (Ming dynasty) and his campaigns and strategies against the wokou pirates! 🙏🏽

when the handle is quite long, you need to be flexible with the hand position on the handle. you can move the bottom hand closer to the top, or vice versa, when performing movement that is awkward in the standard position.

Hola Sifu Dante: Un hermoso video. Agradecido 🙏

Hello. It's a great pleasure to watch very good sword technique. Good for Xingyiquan. Very beautiful swords, especially those made of Damascus steel. I have a karambit made of Damascus steel. Delightful cats. The one who was at the top of the makiwara subtly felt the energy of the return of the pillar and did not jump

@DanteBasili7 ай бұрын
Ciao Nicola, traditionally makiwara like this were not used in Long Xing Quan, perhaps because it exercises the vital points with great precision and not the large target. Instead, I found it useful to adapt some techniques to the wooden man, which allows it to practice his sophisticated footwork, as at the end of this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGqqqaWdbNxmlaM

What internal qualities do have!!!They must be practicing nei JIA ...zhuan :) What do you think is the style they "practice"...if we can say so....In what stage are these cats...Wu wei?Yang?Yin?DAO? On more question... Have you made a video dedicated to how the old kung Fu masters solved the problem boring...western boxing... Specially those right left hook punches and six 🕡 and one 🕐 punches to the opponent? Saluti from Grecia
@DanteBasili7 ай бұрын
Ciao. No problem because I respect and practice Western boxing (and many of my students do better than me) and when you know something you know how to handle it. My teacher's teacher, Zhou Shi Bin, also loved and practiced Western Boxing a lot and was a competitor in both Shuai Jiao and Boxing. I will dedicate a video to him because he was a splendid person and a great fighter. He had the honor of sparring with Mohamed Ali when he made his visit to China. In the meantime you can see this video with some photos of him, where in honor of him we practice his favorite Shuai Jiao techniques. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f57RgY2Ejdytjrc

@@DanteBasili the hooks are practically very dangerous attacks after the direct punch battalion ..they close in so fast and so bull 🐂 like in quality that many martial artists forget to actually study this aspect leaving their students in the lurch... And the worst thing of all my observations...They never use people or integrate the punching techniques so when they give examples of boxers attacks..the teachers helpers dont show the real scenario being executed from a someone who has boxing qualities .steps .moves ... Let me ask you ,what is the defence attack strategy of the Chinese martial arts? Baqua Hsing I Chinese wrestling In their sayings... Or in Tai Chi etc This would also be interesting... A wrestler wants to come as close as possible and crush one down..or chi na him down.. A boxer wants to evade and thrust a million 🚀 punches on vital points and phantom away.. Etc ... There are some old books that sun lu tang wrote about the martial arts tactics... Have you had friends from Aikido and Aikijutsu schools? It is disappointing .for me at least to know that Moribei Ueshiba was fiercely strong and coming from Dating Ryu Aikijutsu..and then suddenly ending uo to a much softer...style that seems so ...soft... Of course one never knows what the other knows...untill he is attacked ... But having compared the Dairy Ryu Aikijutsu people to Aikido..one notes a very distinct quality... Like they say about Ba Dua Zhang and soft Tai chi styles...of course I also know that the soft cotton hides a very dangerous needle....inside.... In the instructions of the right teacher one then can see the hidden doors to victory... Thanks for the time once again and for so much stuff you have given away. Lovely, you might like to see the cuts used by Alfred. Hutton, Google "sable hutton fencing cuts" and you'll get several very nice diagrams. That is (8) cuts or 16 cuts with the use of the "falso dritto" (that is done with the upper edge of a sable, sciabola the false edge), there is fantastic material and much to learn about the sword. Cheers
