Like all sabers, which have only one edge, the Miao Dao can be used close to the body, therefore even at short distances. At the same time, being much longer than a normal saber, it also allows you to cover long distances. The passages in the Taolu, from the long to the short distance are evident and instructive, even when working with the bare hand. What you practice with weapons becomes valuable in other areas as well.

more better than many chinese. many chinese play miao dao like katana. 這裡指會用手腳改變與增加刀勢 只差了槍法的攔拿扎 基本上都是先打掉 接觸到對方武器 再扎. 很少閃空讓空 再加上刺槍術 手握苗刀後段未開刃部分 練刺槍術 就完美了

@@langying that was my impression, but it would be very interesting to find out, also many of the movements seem to be the same just performed as you say with more of a flow by Sifu Basili. My interest is piqued 🙂

Yes agreed, Japanese sword skills appears "to me " as power & attack ! Chinese sword skills "to me" appear as light and subtle. Favourite form= "old Sword 🗡️ / loa Jian "

China had banned double handed bladed weapon from the civilian since 10th century. Therefore the art reborn until a Fujian navy force captured a Japanese pirates during the 13th century. The art evolved in China, which is more like a staff or spears. The idea was swords or sabres are not efficient to kill armoured enemy.

Could you please show how each weapon was carried ? I've learned the "war fan" /tessen/ hand fan "I believe" was carried on the left side at the rear.. It was drawn from behind with the right hand ! I've been practicing "Qi na" & use with a short staff "eagle wings ?". I should admit I've become pretty good duel wielding anything !

Yes it is a very interesting thing, Mr. Chen (from LK Chen) gave me documents that explain in detail the uses, customs and clothing of the different weapons according to the historical period... what was common in one period sometimes becomes completely unknown only a hundred years later... I too am studying and as I mature some notions I document it
