Nica Rogers, a member of the Echo Park gang, died of an overdose at the age of 19. She was in a few scenes in the movie as well. Rogers had a son named Rueben who was left orphaned after the death of his mother, so Anders adopted him. He is now 28-years-old, married with his family and living in Texas. He is also working in the Hollywood industry. Anders also started a Nica Rogers scholarship that would benefit the youth in Echo Park. R.I.P. Nica Rogers 🌹🕯️🌹

Echo park is full of passed out homeless people and drug dealers. Dafuq you talking about homie?
@michaelsaintjude3 жыл бұрын
@@Halesburg Gentrification surrounds Echo Park. Look at Silver Lake which is just a few blocks up Sunset from Echo Park. Also with all the old garment building from the early years of Los Angeles being established at the turn of the 19th century. All those old brick building went to shit in the early 90s when billy boy clinton wrote a bill called NAFTA. Thousands upon thousands of seamstress jobs went to Mexico and now China. But those empty building got retrofitted and turned into million dollar lofts overnight. So now instead of pro's & dopers walking around DTLA all night, you have young yuppies walking around DTLA at all hrs of the night from bar hopping at bars that charge $20 dollars for a beer or $50 dollars for a top shelf drink. Now i'm not sure if Ur talking from first hand experience from living in Los Angeles city Or Ur talking point is from the news media blowing up the story last week about L/E kicking out all the homeless & gangs out from the park for drugs.. The truth is; it doesn't much matter anymore, Sacramento & DC sold Cali out long ago.

OMG! I had forgotten this movie existed. I grew up in Echo Park in mid 80's to early 90's . My friends and I would eat at Patra's Burgers on Sunset and Levata Terrace. Hung out at the hiking trail of Elysian Park. The only gun shots we heard around that time, the training L.A.P.D officers cadets at the training facility. No big crime and no really drive by shootings. Miss my friends and that great memories. Raiders guys in the hood would make fun of me, simply because my team and passion was the Los Angeles Rams. So they would were thier Silver & Black and I'd wear my Gold and Blue of the Rams. We enjoy the fireworks at Echo Park every 4th of July as a kid and as a teen. Thanks for uploading this great movie my friend! Great job and terrific movie.👍

I'm a Chicano who grew up in this life style in S.F. 1980....Barrio Little Park,............Now I have a successful business, live in a beautiful house with 3000 square Ft. living space with a wrap around porch in a upscale white neighborhood, I speak with proper grammar, better than most people around me. Neither of my parents graduated from high school, yet I brought myself up through education and perseverance. No one who knows me today would think that I came from this type of life style. So you shouldn't judge anyone because you never know what they have been though in life, or what they could become. When your young, and this is all you know, it may seem important. then you grow, and see that there is so much more 2 life.

I was born in 99 in south California in Avenues turf. That place was scary. I saw my first shooting when I was only 8 years old. Then when I was 10 I joined a gang in Texas (I moved a lot, I live in lewisville ) I joined a gang called vatos locos. And man I thought they was copying from Blood In Blood Out. Turns out there is a street gang here in tx. Called vatos locos. I was new in the barrio I knew no one. So I join. I'm 15 turning 16 in September and I gotta be honest. I hate this I've style. I wish I can take back what I did and never joined. Now I got my girlfriend pregnant and my mom is so angry. I pay attention in school I don't drink I stopped smoking. I'm trying to get a job for my family. But it's because I'm 15 and I already got a record. My gang at first was the only thing I love. Now I'm realizing that there is more to life than just fighting and stealing. Shit, what should I do.

The point at 24:39 when Sad Girl is talking to her dad... That part really touches me. The way he's talking to her, reflecting about her mom. He sounds so loving and says the same things to her that my dad would say to me when I would go out.

@@latricesaldana2257 Sad Girl: "Hey Dad" Dad: "Oh, I thought you were your mom.. I was dreaming that ur mom was yelling at me, she always yelled at me, idk about what, but it was just her habit.. We remember the weirdest things about people when they're gone.." Sad Girl: I have to go, dad. Dad: "Yes daughter, go, it's Friday and you have the right to enjoy yourself. So go, and have fun." The messed up part about this is that she's going out to fight and could potentially get killed, and the dad is clueless to this life his daughter is living. *TOO BAD FEMALES THESE DAYS DON'T KNOW HOW TO STICK BY THOSE RULES... I THINK GEN-X WAS THE LAST GENERATION TO HAVE REAL "LOYALTY" TO THEIR HOMEBOYS & HOMEGIRLS. I SEE SHIT TODAY WITH SOME OF MY SONS FRIENDS THAT MAKE ME SO HAPPY MY SON MET HIS "TRUE LOVE" AT 15 WHEN HE WAS VISITING MY DAD IN TEXAS FOR THE SUMMER. WE LIVE IN FLORIDA, BUT THIS GIRL WAS SO SWEET THAT I PROMISED HIM IF HE STAYED ON THE PATH HE WAS ON TO GRADUATING EARLY & GETTING A BASEBALL SCHOLARSHIP PLUS AN ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP TO FSU, I'D MAKE SURE SHE WAS ABLE TO VISIT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE & I WOULD PAY FOR IT. THE ONLY ISSUE WE HAD WAS, HER PARENTS WERE STRICT BCUZ THEY WERE GOOD PARENTS LOL, BUT THEY ARE NOT U.S. CITIZENS... MOM IS FROM SPAIN & DAD IS FROM MEXICO. THEY HAD 5 KIDS BUT ONLY MY SON'S GF & HER OLDER BROTHER WERE BORN IN THE U.S. SO, I HAD TO FLY OUT TO MEET THEM EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS 18 WHEN MY SON MET HER AT 15, SHE COULD'VE DONE ANYTHING SHE WANTED TO DO, BUT SHE HAD THE TYPE OF RESPECT FOR HER PARENTS THAT MY SONS HAVE FOR ME & THEIR FATHER AND MOST IDS IN THE U.S. DO NOT HAVE ANYMORE. AFTER I MET HER PARENTS EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND WHEN MY SON TURNED 16 & GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL EARLY, I PAID TO MOVE HIS GF TO FL. TO LIVE WITH US. I EVEN BOUGHT HER A CAR AND PUT THEM IN THEIR OWN PRIVATE LITTLE ADDITION TO MY HOME, SO THEY HAD THEIR OWN LIVING SPACE & THEIR OWN PRIVATE ENTRANCE. I AM GLAD I DID IT BCUZ SHE WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO TO COLLEGE IN TEXAS IF I HADN'T MOVED HER TO FL. & HELPED HER GET ALL KINDS OF GRANTS FROM THE STATE OF FL. THAT PAID FOR HER FULLY TO GO TO COLLEGE TO BE A PHYSICAL THERAPIST. HER & MY SON ARE BOTH IN COLLEGE NOW AND I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MY SON TURNING OUT TO BE SOME FRATERNITY BOY ASSHOLE... LIKE HIS UNCLE DID!! ( My little brother!! ) I JUST PRAY THAT "LOYALTY" & "RESPECT" MAKE A COME BACK LIKE EVERY OTHER "TREND"!!
