Mia The Macaw’s first month is a video of how we worked with this clipped neglected bird and to show her love and happiness. This is not a parrot training video so doing we what did and applying it to your bird may not work.
This will show you how Mia learnt to step up with target training, how her and Mikey slowly got use to each other, how she adapted to the outdoors, meeting other birds, and finally, the very very early stages of learning how to free fly.

A few questions you may have which we didn’t cover
How long will Mia take for her feathers to grow back?
We hope Mia will have a big moult soon and all of her clipped feathers fall and fresh new ones grow so she can join Mikey in the sky, this could take a good year or so.
Will Mia and Mikey have babies?
They both aren’t at the age to be thinking about this yet, if they want to they can, if they don’t they don’t, we won’t make them or stop them, but at this stage, Mikey keeps away from her and they just tolerate each other with no signs at all of them wanting to be friends.
How did they get along in the same cage?
We kept them separated for just under the first month, we let Mia in Mikey's aviary now and then with supervision, before we built the bigger aviary they were in the old aviary together for just under a week and just kept to them self’s. This wouldn’t have worked if we just put them in from the start as Mikey did not like her at all in the beginning and had to get use to sharing.
What harness are you using on Mia?
Now what we are using with Mia is NOT recommended at all and can be very dangerous. We bought a tiny bird harness, cut off the end, attached a clip from toys, which clips on to her leg ring. This is not a safe option for most birds at all, with Mia, she doesn’t have the confidence to fly so won’t just take off but it’s there just incase she gets spooked and tries as if the wind did carry her into a tree, she wouldn’t have a clue how to get down, the harness it’s self is very very stretchy so if it ever did come in use, she would feel the tension on it and hopefully turn back around.
