Mia Winters Is Resident Evil's Most Hated Character?!

She’s a liar and works FOR an evil organization. Heck she obviously mattered enough for Mother Miranda to spare her and keep her alive by the end than using her as leverage. And Capcom didn’t showcase that she was actually one of the bad guys and chooses to think she is good. Girl is an entire terrorist who knew everything and lied to Ethan. Sure. Babysitting trip. I'm not disagreeing but does that make her a bad character? She has an interesting background and dynamic with her. We already have enough goody goody two shoes characters in Resident Evil. Mia added an interesting dynamic to the mix. If she was just the wife character who happened to do nothing wrong and was just taken against her will by the Bakers she would be forgettable. It is because of her ties to working to the Connections that gives the story and very interesting dynamic that I wished was delved upon more. Be interesting don't be boring.

Mia is morally ambiguous, she is absolutely evil in several reasons, but she is absolutely an enjoyable interesting character, such wasted potential about not giving her more screen time and overall development into her.

Mia in RE7 was okay but in RE8 holy shit they just had to mess the entire cast up didn't they . She knew that Ethan was infected but instead of curing him , she makes a baby with him which results into a B. O. W. ! And yes Rose got used against miranda but Chris could have easily laser blasted her ass . By the way Luis from RE4R is a clown . At the age of 22 while he was still in university , he decided to create Bioweapons . How ? Then he teleports himself back to spain . Then he simply wants to give Ada the sample for freedom . He was about to help umbrella AGAIN even tho he should know that it's an evil organisation . People can change but did he really change ? OG Luis tried working as a cop but also failed . He was suspicious of Ada . That's why he didn't immidiatly gave her the sample . He is smarter than he looks . He found out how to remove the parasite . Even tho Ashley wanted to assist him , he felt too ashamed to accept her offer . He ended up trusting Leon more than Ada . Saying " You have to get it back" instead of "Someone has to get it back" . He is the unspoken hero .

I can understand why she is hated, extremely selfish and she's a big reason why everything that can go wrong had wrong with the Evelyn situation and baker family getting infected not to mention she practically got away after everything she did and Ethan had to suffer because of her aswell

I'm not saying your wrong but I don't see how she got away with everything when she was infected for three years by Eveline and forced against her will to be locked up by the Bakers on top of being kidnapped and experimented on by Miranda for an unknown set of time. I won't say she is a saint but it is not like she was having a vacation the whole time with no consequences.

@erzatitaniawins she might not have a vacation but in the end she is the one survived this entire thing despite a direct contributor in this entire ordeal , I know without ethan dying impact of the end wouldn't have hit as much as it did but genuinely think instead of ethan she should've sacrificed herself or at the very least getting arrested by chris due to the shear amount of crime she did also another fact that one way or other people who are directly involved with developing bio weapons got a karmic justice and didn't survived in the end even people like Wesker , berkin or spencer but she did

@@RETROGRADE3438 You do realize that going to jail is a better outcome for Mia than what she went through with the Bakers. How can you even compare Mia to Wesker, Spencer, and Birkin? They are not even close to on the same level of evil. Mia was the caretaker to the Bio Weapon to Eveline who was being transported. Not someone creating Uroboros to conquer the planet or the mastermind behind Umbrella. We still don't know the reasons to why Mia joined up with the Connections in the first place as well as the full extent of what she was doing and that is on Capcom to fill in the gaps not us. Maybe one day they will fill us in but after Village not likely. I'm not saying Mia should get off Scott free but I also don't think she is as evil as people make her out to be. Now why Chris who obviously had to know her involvement didn't do anything is up for speculation. Maybe she would help them find the Connections in return for hiding their family and keeping them off the radar but that is pure speculation. Overall I blame a lot of this on Capcom's inability to fully develop these characters and moments and follow through.

Mia and Ethan should have been playable in Village much like Claire and Leon were on RE 2. Make sometjing of a crossed paths like they did in DMC 5 or something. Allow us to connect with her, to see from her point of view and thoughts... No. They just made her a annoying character with which we can barely empathized

I think RE 9 should focus on Jill/Mia myself. Just think they could answers some these questions about Mia and maybe it would maybe change ppls opinion of her and also just think all the PTSD flashbacks Jill would have if she talked to Mia and learned about her story. It would really go into dealing with Jills trauma which is something people say they want isnt it?

@H3al3d I always wanted to see a Revelations type game about Jill Valentine and Ada Wong. They could be at odds at first because of how different their methods of operation are. Jill being a by the book stern adherence to the law type of character rubbing up against a do whatever it takes to survive attitude. They could canonize Jill's backstory about her father being a criminal and Ada's backstory about growing up in a war. Jill would be troubled by Ada's flexible moral code because of her trauma with her father, and Ada could be dismissive of Jill's moral compass given how she is aware of just how gruesome life can get. There could be a moment where Jill has to decide to take an action that would put Ada's life at risk in order to save herself and maybe other people as well. But Ada gets out of the situation using her ingenuity. Jill could struggle with having made this decision while Ada can appreciate why she did it when seeing the other people jill saved by making it safe There could be a lot of moments like this between them throughout the game that give them more understanding of each other. By the end, they could have a greater understanding of each other as well as an appreciation for why they operate the way they do.

@iamethanjameswinters Being completely honest, I would like to see both Ethan and Mia return but only briefly. I would like to see Ethan and Mia reunite as a sort of farewell to the Winters family so they can go off and have a peaceful, happy life. I don't anticipate this happening, though, because of the Rose Winters time skip at the end of Resident Evil Village as well as its DLC.

I like to think mia winters is morally Gray because mia loves her family more than anything, Mia was happy about her daughter was okay and safe but at the same time she was in deep sadness about Ethan's death. Maybe Mia had finally lost her mind from all of her trauma by eveline and Miranda with Ethan's death was one that broke her sanity, she might be in mental hospital for long-term type of situation if she is mentally unstable.

You know when you make some fresh bread out the oven and you smell it, it smells so good and then you take a bite out of it. It taste good, but it could do better and it missed some ingredients, that’s what I feel when I’m playing RE7 and RE8. RE7 tried to be creative but failed, and the boat section in the game was trash. Ada Wong little section in RE2R was way better. RE Village tried to be scary but failed miserably as well, and the boss fights weren’t the best. The Ethan Winter series was good but left some things out that could’ve made it better

I don't hate Mia. But I was annoyed by her direction in RE7 and virtual absence in RE8. In RE7 every thing you see with Mia and Zoe leads you to believe that saving Zoe is the best thing to do, because she is INFINETLY more useful to Ethan and the plot than Mia was. Then in RE8 all we ever see of the Real Mia is a Flashback where she is awful to Ethan and then we see her survivng the end of RE8 while the character we have been spending all our time playing as Dies, for Mia and Rose to escape. It was not fair to Ethan to go through all that only to die, again.

My biggest thing is how a character is utilized in a story. I believe a lot of things are left out and left up for interpretation which has given fans a negative feeling for Mia which is on Capcom. I wished we learned more of how Mia got involved with the connections on top of the immediate after math of RE7 where Mia and Ethan have a serious conversation with each other. These are things I believe are missing in RE7. RE8 just needs a whole overhaul because Mia could have just died off screen and nothing would change considering they do nothing with her. The fact that Ethan never truly sees his wife and the Winters family never reunites is just plain sad.

I agree with your points on this, especially with your idea on Village would have made it more emotional than the main game did. Even hell, I feel that Ethan Winters especially, if he came back in future titles, he has potential to be more interesting and used efficiently as well. Both him and Mia have more potential for great stories. Maybe Ethan can endure some psychological horror stuff like I mentioned before and make his character grey and human. That's one of the main points I was trying to say before.

You don't want Ethan to be grey in this fanbase. Than he would be hated as having any character that isn't 100% good or evil is almost always hated unless you are Luis from RE4R. Fun fact I found online a Capcom Resident Evil character voting that had 30 characters ranked. Mia didn't even make the top 30 but you know who did? A hunter. That's right an enemy type. Also Steve was in the top 20. Hell even Eveline made the list. I will post it on my community post at some point. People just want Mia either dead or sitting in jail for the rest of her life and don't want anything from her to add to a story. Just imagine for one moment if Mia was just a normal wife character who had no ties to the connections and was just simply taken against her will by the Bakers. Would that make the story better? It is because of her ties to the connections that gives her and the story an interesting dynamic that I wished was explored more. Like how did Mia get involved with them in the first place and what was she trying to get out of it. My one rule about a character is be interesting, don't bore me. I don't care about good or evil affiliations just as long as you are used effectively for the course of the story. But unfortunately this the RE fandom and it is hard for them to grasp this concept. Just imagine them trying to grasp the fact that just about everyone in Silent Hill 2 is not a good person and has a lot skeletons in the closet.

And I'm one of those people who don't hate Mia Winters. She's one of my favourite characters. And I want Capcom to explore more on the Winters family and the Connections. And that's true. I never really thought about mia being hated all that much. There is plenty i didnt like about her but hating her seems a little far. Gotta remember though sometimes people just dont like the way people look. I have seen plenty of people play through 7 and the opening where she says hi in the video and immediatly they are not into it. im not sure if its cause she looks kinda mid or something but we all know that if it was ada wong or someone who was super attractive in the role many of us would forgive and even love her. Honestly i cant think of many important characters in the resident evil franchise that are truly hateable. A few i can come up with is like maybe Ozwell spencer or someone who heads one of the horrific sciences that dont actually appear in the games for the most part. Krauser is an out there one for me personally in part due to being a tough boss and the other reason is like dude what the heck is your problem, he got a wierd obsession with leon.

What happened to the Bakers was an accident. I wouldn't call Mia selfish for wanting to stay alive, especially after all the stuff she experienced during those three years. Also, I don't think that Mia viewed that organization as evil rather than just a job. Reason she didn't tell Ethan anything was probably because she was afraid that she would be putting him in danger by sharing that information. I mean, she did care so much for him that she literally told him to stay away and to not try to find her. Literally saying, "Forget you ever knew me. Have a good life." In what she thought was her final message to him, she still acted as though she still couldn't tell him. She cared about him to the point that she didn't want him to put himself in danger to find her, and that didn't seem very selfish to me. Also, to act like Mia suffered, no repercussions is crazy. Sure, it might not have been from the government, but Mia's life wasn't no walk in the park after RE7. At some point between RE7 and RE8, she was kidnapped by Miranda. Only God knows when and what Miranda did to her while she had her. Not to mention, Mia had to watch Miranda take apart and use her Rose in a ritual. When she finally gets found by Chris and gets Rose back, she then had to watch the explosion that killed her husband. Quite frankly, I think going to jail would have been way more preferable to her than literally everything she went through.

Just because she suffered in re7 and re8 doesn't mean she can walk away without getting punishment by law for what she did. We still do not know hardly anything about why Mia hooked up with the Connections in the first place as well as her long term goal. If we had her motivation as well as what she knew and wanted to get out of this by working with them then we could answer a lot of questions. I still don't believe Mia is an evil person that wants to hurt people but she did a lot of questionable things by working for questionable people. Not having the direct motivation or if these people contacting her first is a fail on Capcom. It is not our job to fill in the blanks but that is what Capcom is making us do unfortunately.

Mia for me is my MOST hated character. Bcs she does everything as a villain would do BEFORE getting mind controled and doesnt gets explored in ANYWAY! Shes frustrating. Mia's credentials and profession are kinda cool.. I personally loved the Tanker .. She is honestly an anti - wesker type of character to me.. She didn't want any of this to happen and drag Ethan in it.. She fucked up.. Period.. and she wants Ethan's forgiveness for the lies.. The double life she was living.. Try to start over.. But Mother Miranda wasn't having it.. I'm actually playing Mia"'s tanker chapter, as I'm typing this .. It's pretty fresh on my mind .. And I've wondered why the " Albert 01R ?? Why that handgun in particular? Mia mirrors Wesker in Alot of ways . The Connection was involved with HCF too.. One of Wesker"s affiliates.. HCF bombed the Ashford Island, Wesker came looking for Alexa..

After rewatching a bit of Resident Evil 7 right now, I have to say this, it's almost parallel to Chris Redfield trying to find and save Jill Valentine in Resident Evil 5. Ethan is doing the exact same thing Chris did with Jill for Mia. And another interesting thing I've found about Ethan's character is his resistance to Evelyn's control when he is infected with the Mold. It's like he has some sort of antibody to resist Evelyn's control like Jake has for the C virus or Albert Wesker for any virus and Jill Valentine with the viruses she was infected with. Ethan must have an antibody for Evelyn's control which is exactly why he didn't mutate like the Bakers or turned like Mia did. That and he must have a strong mindset. I want Capcom to explore a bit more on Ethan's resistance to Evelyn's control because, to me, that's interesting to know. Like how? How is he able to still have his humanity through being infected with the Mold? I really do want this explored more.

I think the reason he resists is the same reason all the OG characters didn't turn when bitten by zombies in the early RE days when other people turned. They say they were all resistant but the real reason is if they turned then the game wouldn't be very long not unless you had a no damage run. It is just one of those video game logic things. It is why Marvin turned in RE2 but not Leon or Claire despite being bitten multiple times. I have already made a series of videos this year talking about how much of a fail I think RE5 is(the most botched RE of all time in my opinion) earlier this year so I am not a fan of how they told the story from an emotional point of view as well as disrespecting the three major characters(Jill, Chris, and Wesker) in that game. I don't like the fact that Chris thought Jill was still alive and would be better if he actually believed she was dead and tried to push forward and move on. Because he never believed she died why would fans believe it killing the marketing of this game before it even released. And that is just one misstep.
