So fun to hear from you just doing "maintenance" on your instrument. I enjoy your music but it's nice to also watch you just hanging out and talking.

My friend Chat turned me on to D'Addario strings many years ago! I use EXL120s on my ancient Sears two-pickup Silvertone 1964 electric (made by Danelectro for Sears), and EJ15 Phosphor Bronze on my Framus Acoustic. Strings and Saxophone reeds make all the difference! My friend Peg (Chat's wife) got me into VanDoren reeds (I currently use #3s) for my (equally ancient) Armstrong 3000 Sax! The Otto Link *8 mouthpiece and a Rovner ligature gives it a nice "round" tone and isn't too "brassy". All the little details matter!

A string winder makes restringing even easier just turn the handle
@roberteltze48505 күн бұрын
Forget a string winder, get yourself a set of locking tuners. It just takes once and you'll want to put them on all your instruments.

Great video. I was thinking about your comment about the short G string. Could you use a guitar string. They're both tuned to g3. Great playing.

Replacing one string at a time also keeps the tension on the neck. Does that violin have a specific marked spot where the bridge has to be? I have this cheap electric violin and the bridge fits perfectly in the slot where the pickup is.

Mia, which do you recommend I use on my electronic violin? I am a beginner when it comes to playing violin. I purchased daadario ns electric strings but did not put them on my violin yet. Should I purchase helicore or do you think the ns strings will sound fine? Thanks for your help!
@-Viceroy-6 күн бұрын
Brighter sound on the new ones. But why not having one violin with old strings? The sound is not bad with old ones. "Rustic sound" also has it's benefits

Helicore strings are alot easier to bow, they're a bit thinner

"Really old" - a couple of months. Clearly for this non-musician 'old' means a different thing than it does for your instruments. How long does it take to actually do the twisting - the clip where you said 'magic of video editing.'
