As someone who's done Cosplay, the key is to pretend that this is normal (in our case, it's getting to the convention center and having food breaks outside, taking photos and stuff like it). The longer you pretend, the more it will actually feel like it and it'll end up being a lot of fun seeing reactions from people.

The IKEA visit DEFINITELY gave cosplay vibes lol. Oh how I miss being in mall conventions and seeing the food court full of people in costume with the normal, clueless civilian here and there. It's easier with cons because hundreds of people are doing the same, but when you're out of the event area, it's definitely fake it till you make it or ignore the stares lol. It helps being with a friend or two, too. May or may not be in cosplay as well. Edit: But I fr do miss cosplay events. I miss the bustle and the smiles they bring. And I'm an introvert.

Definitely! After my brother's wedding, I had to run and grab a few things while all dressed up. 10/10 anxiety inducing--until I noticed people smiling at me and someone actually stopped me to compliment how I looked! I also got several "congratulations" from people, and a random "happy birthday". People genuinely don't mind, and will assume it's for an event. Any time I'm anxious in public, I keep that in my head.

Honestly, I think ppl look so hard because no one really dresses up anymore and they are really pretty dresses. The dress that you wore to IKEA would’ve been really pretty at like a flower nursery. Just got to the end of the video, if you have a Belle ball gown, going to the library will cause some major excitement for kids

As someone who causally does this on multiple occasions it was interesting to see someone who isn’t comfortable with it trying it out. I still remember the anxiety I’d gotten when I started do that but now it’s just funny to see how much attention you get just by dressing up 😂
