Ron is hilarious 😂 Msybe he thinks Rose is too young to know what's up when there are babies a'happening, but his Rose us a smart 1st-time mama! The nest looks so barren of sticks and fluff. Is it a new nest? Has Ron had eaglets before? V15 hovered over and kept hatching chick warm. There he goes! Of course 70 degrees helps some. Hir wing is still stick in the shell! How is the other egg staying warm enough?

Ron has successfully raised eaglets with his previous partner, Rita. The other egg was warm enough because these were all the moments in a 48 hour period when they got up and gave us a good view. It is also Miami so it's already very warm there so losing heat quickly is not a concern. The chick managed to get it's wing free from the egg shell soon after this thankfully :)

is the little "belly button" (when it falls over around 10:27) the booty or is it where it was connected to the egg?

That is an excellent question! As birds don't have a placenta, they have no belly button. This thing you see is called the cloaca - it is where they do their business from and also is the opening to their internal sex organs. It looks very similar on male and female birds. During mating the male brushes his cloaca against the female's cloaca and this is called the 'cloacal kiss'. 🙂

Looks like R4 has cut on its neck from the egg shell poor little thing. That darn shell justvdoesnt want to fall off!

Just before the end, I saw a crack in the second egg. So we can hope for the younger eaglet to be hatched two days later.

Ron had several eaglets with Rita, his previous partner. R1, R2 and R3 were the first ones they had since the camera was put up but R3 did not survive. Unfortunately Rita was injured at the start of this breeding season and has had her wing amputated so she cannot be released to the wild again. Ron met Rose in December and they have become a strong bonded pair :)
