Ahead of Game One of the Eastern Conference Finals, Miami Guard, Victor Oladipo, joins The Pivot to talk about his storied comeback from injury and his journey that landed him on the Miami Heat. From #2 Draft Pick to five different teams to an injury that most thought he may never play again...Oladipo beat the odds to work his way back into the lineup in time for Miami to be heating up in the playoffs.
Victor explains the pain and frustrations behind his quad injury and the recovery process mentally and physically sharing the struggles but accepting the challenge to be better everyday. Fred shares his own challenges on rebounding from injuries and the emotions that come with it while Ryan discusses some specifics about the illness when he was on the Steelers to recovering and playing a year later in the Super Bowl.
The guys ask about the locker room and who the leaders are while wondering what playing with Jimmy Butler is like and the mindset the Heat have heading into the finals. Oladipo explains what makes the team so special is that they don't care about opinions of others and embrace being the underdog. When everyone counts us out, we just focus on winning and the leadership of Butler is the glue to the team right now.
Ryan talks through the match up against the Celtics and the similarities the teams share but Oladipo recognizes it's going to be a fight but that his team is prepared for the fight.
Channing asks about the rumors of Vic turning down 45million from Houston and Vic sets the record straight about those comments and then goes on to say how he is thankful for all the obstacles because they have landed him where he belongs now. Closing out the show, Channing mentions to Oladipo how his wife is a big fan of Oladipo's music and asks if singing is his way of picking up girls.

I am a 72 year old Black woman, I usually do not listen or watch sports talk shows. However, my daughter kept this on even though it was an ad. Since I misplaced my remote, I had to watch. I am commenting to tell you how much I am enjoying this and will be subscribing to this show, podcast, or whatever. I love this show and the hosts and this particular player. Thank you for making this enjoyable!

As requested by my fellow Pivoters, I’m reposting this comment: The way RC started the Plaxico Burress episode got me thinking…can we get an “Inside Pivot” where each of y’all individually sit as a guest for an episode while the other two lead the interview? Freaky Fred, then Channing, and finishing it with RC would be 🔥🔥🔥!!

It's great to see Fred be honest with Victor without minimizing his story! He has a great deal of empathy for him, but I think it's important in those moments to let people know there's others who have gone through it, too. Victor can hopefully walk away from this episode with that perspective, because he does give off the impression that he's the only one in the world to have setbacks. I had stroke this past winter and lost my speech entirely, as well as my entire right side. It took forever to get back to normal, but that's life. I was just grateful to not lose my life, to still be here and to have my family. I'm young, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, I eat right, but it happened to me all the same just as it can happen to anyone. Victor's fortunate it was only a knee. He's fortunate everyday he's able to play professional basketball. I don't say that at all to minimize his story, though, because I realize that it was very hard to battle back from. I do wish him a great recovery and a great career!

@@dnicmartinez: This felt different. I do hear what you're saying, but in this case I think he really needed to hear what Fred said. For instance, him making a big deal about his mother being pushed aside while he was being carted off; That's security doing their job. They have no idea who's related to whom, but still he took it as a slight. Same with the doctors who performed surgery. There's an off-chance every surgery goes wrong, especially when you have to go in with a scalpel to repair something. Fred and Ryan know all about that, which is why it's good for him to hear their stories.

Born and raised in Indy. Victor was a breath of fresh air for the entire State of Indiana. One heck of a ball player and a reminder that basketball is a team sport. Vic carried the Pacers as if he were born to do so. The injury and timing made things even more difficult. His heart drove him back to early which led to even more problems. The NBA needs more players of Victor's caliber. GO HOOSIERS

Great Episode guys! It's crazy how much Victor opened up from the get go. That's a testament to you guys and making y'alls guest feel comfortable. He's been through a lot. Hope all his hard work pays off and they win that Championship he's after. See y'all next week.
