Miami Vice was a TV &, fashion & trends. Times were changing also the trends. But that doesn't change the fact they could've done a better job with the writing for seasons 4-5.

Short answer: loss of the original creative vision was the problem. The first season was a BIG hit among the officers in FAOBC, attractive women; music and automatic weapons and explosives.: appointment TV in the Fall of '84 among 2LTs in the Basic Course. I lose track of it when I spent 50 months in the FRG. By the time I came back to go to MIOAC it was being cancelled.

Yeah younger people don’t quite understand the impact or the cultural penetration a hit tv show had in those days. Kids today think a hit show is on an app” with maybe a viewership of 4 or 5 million people. Hit shows in the old days meant an estimated 40 plus MILLION viewers. Miami Vice was a phenomenon so big that it came with a backlash. That and all it’s best writers and producers because of the shows success all left the show for other opportunities. Like a lot of phenomenons the peak is almost too high and has nowhere to go but down. Trends are trends because they come and go. In that way MV was never meant to last ya know. Good video brother👍.

When Crockett had amnesia those episodes were some of the best after that it went down downhill?5th season finale was decent? The Sheena Easton Episodes had there moments but it got silly real fast, not to mentioned the James Brown episode?

I also think a problem with Miami Vice was something that's befallen other hour long shows, when you burn so brightly, it's bound to go downhill fast. Another contemporary show from that era (they actually ran the same timeframe) was Moonlighting, which at one point was one of the hottest shows on tv and everyone was addicted to it, but audiences moved on when there wasn't much left to do after the two characters hooked up and the writing suffered and audiences stopped watchung. I also felt like Miami Vice was a victim like that where it was so closely linked to a certain style and look that when it tried to keep up with the times, it lost a lot of its charm

Great point!!! A show starts off Hot then turns cold…a victim of its own success

@@entertainment4onepodcast531 yep, Desperate Housewives, Ally McBeal, Scandal to name a few more that were incredibly hot at the beginning and then nobody cared after a few years. I have the blu-ray of the complete MV series but usually only ever pop in the first two seasons, though I am glad to have the whole thing

Moonlighting was very very hard to produce because there was so much detail and nuance to the show. It wasn't a "turn on the camera and let em riff" type of show.

I'll ask this question once again since everyone always says the exact same thing: Why should fashion in 1987 look the same as in 1984? Even in season one Crockett donned a black t-shirt, which is far from being a pastel. Being that MV was always at the forefront of fashion, obviously they had to change with the times. I loved the show from start to finish. I just started watching Miami Vice about 2 years ago, so yes, you can spoil it for people that have never seen it even though it's over 30 years old. That Burnett saga was killer! My favorite episodes of Miami Vice. Reviews like this make my blood boil so maybe I should stop watching it.

I think that many of the episodes in Season 2 were also a problem and it began its downhill slide.
