Single/Double axel with the fenders right at the water line… and i dont get all the people who try to float or winch boats onto drive on trailers over and over!?! Great show man, boat launches are a hell of a show if youre not trying to get yourself in and out of the water! Always best to help and pass on some knowledge to anyone struggling if they will accept it

In the couple of years I've watched this channel, I remember only one perfect docking evolution... an FWC Officer who was single-handing and used one single midships line to tie off and then casually stepped off the boat. And that's exactly how I do it... no one gets off the boat until I am tied up safely to the dock.
@Chris-fo8wp Жыл бұрын
Yep, springline!!
@SARDOGFL Жыл бұрын
@user-xg5zf7dg3y not really a spring line, but a single direct line over a piling and back to the boat. If the midships cleat is at the boat's natural pivot point, that's plenty of mooring to leave the boat to go get the trailer, etc - or a great first line to hold the boat while you rig other lines of greater length. Would not be a good line to leave with big tide swings.

Depends on the steepness of the ramp, and whether it's a roller trailer or a bunk trailer, but generally I back in till the top of the fender on a single axle is just below the water surface.

Yeah... along with the trailer and license plate wiring. And this is why I buy NEW trucks in FL - *WITH* 4WD! Sad thing is... the driver learned NOTHING from that loading evolution. It accidentally worked out this time, so he now believes that backing the trailer into the next county is how you are supposed to do it.

I'm guessing they think the bow stop on the trailer has to be level with the bow eye on the boat as it's floating. I usually leave about 1/3 of the bunks out of the water so the boat centers itself on the way up to the stop. Every ramp differs in depth and slope, just have to develop an eye and feel for it.

I leave about 10-12” of bunk out and I can power it right up and it self centers. Using the fenders as reference hasn’t always been as consistent depending on the slope of the ramp. This is with a multispecies fishing boat so I can’t speak re a real heavy saltwater boat.
@DonziGT230 Жыл бұрын
I mostly solo launch at a ramp with no dock, a fairly challenging scenario. I loosen the winch strap about 1', back down till the boat slides off, then pull forward just enough so that the boat will stay on the trailer without the strap. Unhook the strap, climb in, and pull away. At retrieval time I back the trailer in to about the same position as when I pulled off, the boat centers and stays on it's own while I climb over the bow and attach the winch to drive off. How high the fenders are to the water varies by ramp and boat/trailer, but they're typically partially above water to just a little below.
@richstiner7404 Жыл бұрын
I made a slanted raised platform on the tongue of my boat trailer. It looks like a wide bunk, and it's slanted to be about level with the water when the trailer is in just right for retrieval. If I'm in the mood to keep my feet dry, I can climb in the pickup bed, then use the platform to hook up and winch. That Ford Excursion was clearly four wheel drive.

I don’t know how. But in all these years I’ve managed to pull up to a dock with absolute perfection, The same can’t be said for loading the boat back onto the trailer though I’ve got some nice deep scratches to remind me lol

With my little 15ft Whaler, I usually launch/retrieve with about 2/3 of the bunk in the water. That allows me to tap the brakes and have the boat slide off during launch, and just above idle to power on during retrieval. When launching, I loop about 10ft of bow line to the trailer winch post, to keep the boat from floating away.

Old timer said the rule of thumb on launching/loading is sink the damn trailer launching, 1/4-1/3 of the bunk fronts dry for loading-then adjust for taste. All three of my trailers I've a bunk bracket I go by, figured out the best depth for each, found a place in the mirror I could go by on each. BUT, differing ramp angles can change things very slightly.

Boats and trailers are always different but that was how we did ours, back in until the fenders are just barely above the waterline. And then we slowly drove onto the trailer until the automatic bow clip engaged. As soon as the driver heard that click he slowly pulled up the ramp and the boat was already centered. It's not rocket science, it's just common sense, which these days isn't very common anymore.

I have to be honest Black point and all the other Florida boat ramps should register as Super fund toxic dump site's . You should have a Sunk car counter on the ramp that accurately shows the number of tow vehicles that went under each week and the level of environmental damage caused then tally that number with the number of Florida Boat ramps where they allow Retards to ramp there boats with whatever tow vehicle they want ...
