My earliest, fondest memory of this classic is when I first heard it on air on The Captain Kangaroo Show. I admit I'm older than dirt.

My high school orchestra played this during a general assembly back in the mid 50's. Always loved it.

I think that this was inspired by the classic sketch of Andre Previn and Morecambe & Wise performing the Grieg Piano Concerto.

Can't hear the typewriter at all--nice intro, but missing the sound that Anderson wanted. And the bell should be part of the carriage return.
@linmeili9660 Жыл бұрын
In every performance I have seen, the bell is separate, and I think it has to be. Back when I could experience it only in audio, I wondered how the bell could be right when the lines were of such different lengths--that would take a lot of margin resets. What bothers me about this performance is that there are no carriage returns, just a sound produced by the percussion section. The carriage doesn't move at all.
@david203 Жыл бұрын
@@linmeili9660 I think these are fatal flaws. It is as if the typewriter sounds were all recorded separately. The sound of the carriage return is floating in space, separate from the actual typewriter. Ugh.
@smartasasackofhammer10 ай бұрын
@@david203 Miking is so bad the voices are muffled and the mike arrangement is obviously not delivering clear sound of the typewriter. The carriage return is out of sync, it's being done by a scratcher played by a percussionist. Jerry Lewis version is better.

The guy doesn't wind the typewriter back to.the left hand side of the page each time he comes to the end of a sentence. Funny that.

The carriage isn't moving, and the carriage return sound is coming from something in the percussion section--inauthentic and lame!

With a real typewriter it would be a better performance ...
@smartasasackofhammer10 ай бұрын
Bad miking, voices are muffled and typewriter almost inaudible. Carriage return is faked by a scratcher that's not always in sync.
