This scene hits different when you realize K has been waiting for this moment since the 60's
@sacundim Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it ruins this scene. Instead of J being some random everyman who is badass enough to chase down that alien and impress K, it's more like he's picked out of something akin to nepotism
@conorwellman8592 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, this really ruins things and removes a lot meaning/plot development from most of the movie. It ruins J proving himself and makes any arguments or doubts by K or Zed ("He has a real problem with authority," "Let's hope you know what you're doing") look stupid if they already knew he would be a successful agent. It also cheapens the scene where K is trying to convince him to join or is impressed by him for chasing down the alien in this scene. also, it cheapens the scene J stays up all night trying to decide what to do. For MIB to be" real" and "genuine," it has to have happened in a different timeline or universe or something like that.

Remarkable difference between this, the original, and the later films. MIB has a whole naturalism about it, a flow that is completely naturalised and real. The later films received a gradual and ever increasing amount of romanticism and hollywood’ism about them, and made watching those films wholly artificial and something we couldn’t relate to; in other words, they made the stories and aura of the later films an artificiality and a persistent need to make every scene a ‘gasp ‘n’ grasp’. They’re ‘fake’. This makes Men in Black (MIB 1) an absolute classic and something most of us can enjoy and love.
