THE BIG QUESTION NEEDS TO BE ASKED !!! WITH MEGO’’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY FIGURES, HAVE WE SEEN THE LAST OF FTC MEGO RETRO STYLED FIGURES ? WILL THE CONSUMER CONTINUE TO PURCHASE MEGO LIKE FTC FIGURES FROM FTC ?? THESE AND MANY MORE QUESTIONS WILL BE DISCUSSED AND EXAMINED BY MIB !!! JOIN THIS HOT TOPIC OF DISCUSSION !!!

After studying both brands these past couple of years I've concluded that FTC had created new molds over the original Megos. I say this because I'm currently putting together a series of large scale oil paintings dedicated to vintage toys from the 1970's with Batman and Robin, along with their villains, being on my top 5 priority list. Originally I thought I could pull off the Old Master results I'm looking for on a more affordable budget by going with the FTC reproductions. However, after comparing their Joker figure to the original Mego one I couldn't help noticing the loss in facial detail due to it being a secondary cast mold. And if f anyone knows anything about sculpting, the more molds you cast over a previous one the more detail you'll lose. Since then I've replaced all of my FTCs with Megos.

I was told that FTC’s license to make DC superheroes has expired. This is Mego’s show now. I hope Mego will give us a generous line of 8-inch superheroes and action vehicles.

I love these superhero videos you're doing, MIB!!! I'm a Mego fan and collector first and foremost, but I do appreciate the place that FTC had before Mego came back. I hope FTC keeps producing DC figures. They tend to make characters that Mego doesn't (Filmation Batman, for example). And I use FTC for customs. But overall, Mego is my preference and I am SO glad that they are making 8" WGSH in the vintage style again!

I'm glad Mego is back, but I would never dismiss the Figures Toy Company. The variety of FTC's line alone makes it worth while. Through FTC I was able to get a Conan figure(which I never had before) and I absolutely love the Super-Friends and Batman TV show figures. Mego may have a better business model by selling their product at Walmart and maybe that's why they're a little cheaper. I found the FTC figures by accident and learned that their company had been in buiness for quite a while before I knew. It's not like FTC toys were in stores(not to my knowledge anyway...) I am glad that Mego has a Star Trek line but I do wish FTC or Mego could get Marvel on board. I always wanted a Green Goblin and Fantastic Four figures! I have a minor complaint, which is just a personal preference about the Superman Mego re-issue figure. I have always hated that logo letterhead that DC started using in the 80's and now it's on this Mego box instead of the original that was used since the golden age. I don't know if DC does that to screw Siegel & Schuster's families out of some royalties or what the deal is. They did re-use Batman's logo from the original box. Also have heard that the Mego line has the paper sticker emblems and I know that's original, but I hated losing them as a kid! That's why Mego Spider-man is awesome:)

I appreciate that FTC made these at a time when Mego was still dormant, but an actual "Mego" will always trump an FTC Mego repro. The 50th figures are dead on replicas of the originals, right down to the boxes. Add to that the quality of the Mego figures are better and they run 1/2 the price of FTC. Mego takes this win all day.

Great topic to discuss brother, I recently purchased a FTC removable Cowell Robin and I gotta say mego is definitely making better figures, wasn't to happy with the FTC figure, mego is definitely improving as the waves go on and the 50th anniversary figures are great in quality and nostalgia. FTC does some great stuff but Mego coming out with these old figures again has most definitely trumped ftc.I have a lot of the original Megos and is nice to add these to the collection.I think my favorite line that ftc has done is the 1966 Batman figures.good to see those in Mego like format.now if Mego would bring back some of thire old play sets that would be something.

For me, no question. The new Mego reissues have triggered all the endorphins that the FTC figures consistently failed to do. I don't even know if I can explain it properly, but it happens to be true. One thing I can tell you is that I always felt ripped off by FTC, whereas I felt I was getting a bargain with the new Mego issues.

@@m.i.bmastertoymuseum1979 I also have to mention something that's been pointed out elsewhere, I think it's incredible that Mego was able to use the original illustrations and packaging, as well as the World's Greatest Super-Heroes branding, contrary to the current DC/Warner Bros style guide for merchandise. The packaging really contributes to all the good feels.

I have some original Mego superheroes in my collection and I am loyal to the REAL Mego toy company…….But if I decide that I want a red Mego Batcycle, then I know who to go buy from.

Please keep in mind that Figures Toy Company went out and copied Mego’s DC original characters and then expanded their 8-inch DC Superheroes line with more characters. FTC copied several of Mego’s action vehicles and playsets too. Now the REAL MEGO toy company is back. It will be very interesting to see how far Mego takes their 8-inch Superheroes toy line.

The only DC related FTC figures I collected were the Batman 66 figures. Not that I’m actively collecting the Mego 50th Anniversary figures, I might go back and get some FTC figures to complement them, like FTC secret identities, and the Super Friends Lex Luthor.

I love Mego...my 12" Captain America is my favorite....but FTC is at the top for me...so many great options over the years...those 18" Superman and Batman figures are phenomenal!!! And anybody that gives me a GLOW IN THE DARK Space Ghost, Birdman, and Galaxy Trio is on top!!! Now if Mego breaks out some Thundarr The Barbarian figures, I might have to do some rethinking🤣

When I was a kid, all I wanted was a Mego Ultraman! Yep, I know they never made one back then, but it was always a dream of mine, because he was my favorite superhero! When I heard Mego was returning to business, then learned of the return of their classic figures and then learned of the Ultraman license agreement, I quite literally said to God, "you heard every word I said Lord and you gave me what I have always wanted, thank you thank you!" I may have added a little extra drama, but thats the gist of it! 😂...From my Fisher-Price airport to my Shogun Warriors, US1 Truckin' set or to my WGSH... the MEGO Ultraman is my absolute number one favorite toy of ALL TIME!!! What makes it better is, Mego produced four different variants and I am a super happy old man!

Mego is better than FTC for anyone that had the original release of the figures. But I had the second release of Mego’s Batman with the molded on cowl . So the FTC version of the second release is closer to what I had .

I just bought the FTC for the molded cowel and the screened logo. Those stickers trigger my childhood frustration. I have an old Mego that I don't touch. I don't need a NEW Mego that I won't touch too. If I see one in the wild I may change my mind or pick up a Superman. Or maybe an FTC Superman? Megos are the Superheroes of my childhood and I'm extremely excited to get them! I have a FTC BATMAN which is cool but just the fact that these new figures are real Megos blows my mind! Hello MIB ,FTC brought a lot of classic retro mego style figures ,& i bought a lot & still like them ,Figures toy company reproduced just about every DC figure + vehicles & playsets . even build an Isis & peter parker i dont think Mego at this point will ever go that deep ,i hope they do .i bought all my FTC figures from 2013-2016 + before mego returned ,however if i hadnt ,for some characters ,there would be no reason to buy the FTCs today with these new megos out -price #1 reason .did Mego do it better ? ,well yes ...its mego in name ,their more defined and the box art is spot on & the best part they are at retail !! as kids thats a special memory .has Mego overtaken FTC ,yes & no .At this point FTC has a lot more action figures of characters avalible at their website .however Mego at retail & online distributers has a great deal more exposure .FTC deserves kuddos for producing figures we never had ,and for holding the line ,when no company was there to do so ,and i truly hope both Mego & FTC continue to be successful .thanx MIB ,great video ,you keep knocking them out ,no one can touch you .

I like the anniversary figures but I don`t think enough to purchase them ,Its like I had these toys been there done that, I want to see NEW and different figures, I can understand if you have a museum you would want to have them. I just can`t get over the stupid oven mits I hated them as a kid and I still hate them at least the bodies are done better for posability- you could not pose these as a kid and most of the time they were just thrown in a box when you were done kicking the crap at that ugly figure Mr Mxyzptlk ( My most hated Mego! and hardest name to pronounce as a young kid ) Of course FTC is missing the mark but they did take up the mantle for a while and did come up with some great action figures while Mego was in jail for some kinda illegal business dealings. I don`t know how FTC can survive putting out crappy chinese breakable figures at this point and for that high price point, but what would we do without Classic TV Toys, they do have some great Presidential figures and the classic Batman figures etc. Come on already FTC up your game! You want to get the collectors communities attention, Come out with the Beatles, Guns and Roses, almost any Rock N roll figure would be a blast. Neca just came out with 2 ACDC figures and there gone like lightning, Can you imagine Led Zeppelin figures??? OZZY? Even Stryper with their yellow and black and long hair costumes. Imagine Sons of Anarchy figures or Sopranos? What about a Christmas Carol figures??? or even Jesus in a manger figures for Christmas??? I already started making my own Christmas Carol figures and they are coming out amazing. I should be running Mego I would be so aggressive in getting these licenses, and bring back Marvel as well, Mego FTC are sitting on there own gold-minds and I don`t think they have enough creative people at the helm, they come off too passive about the culture, Its like you gotta beg them to come out with anything new, I`m tired of this old crap the same figures again, please spare me were not in the 70`s and 80`s anymore, you got to get crazy with these toys to rip this new generation of woke green haired kids away from their cell phones. the new generation are a bunch of heartless girlie men with no passion or originality. There is only one MEGO... I appreciate what FTC brings to the table, but if I was starting out, I would collect MEGO first. I do hope it drives the prices down on FTC Action Figures. I am happy there is more variety now then when I was a kid. Let's be honest, the prices would have to decrease to make them affordable enough for kids to play with them.

I keep reading about FTC price points. FTC dropped their boxed figures to $19.99 a few months ago. Also, if you buy 12 you get one free plus a display box. I'm glad to see FTC getting more love on the later comments. I love hearing from people who are reliving childhood memories with the new boxed figures, but it is disheartening to hear many of those people not giving FTC the respect they deserve. Would this Mego revival have taken place without FTC proving there's a market for these figures? I don't think it would.

FTC scratched an itch, and made plenty of money doing it. FTC also made many deep cut characters that Mego will never do. Plus do we know if FTC is still is producing DC, or is everything there selling now is old stock? FTC just needs different licenses and brands and they will be fine. They shouldn’t compete with Mego.

Hahaha !!!! That Robin is in honor of the Kresge Card Robin from 1972-73 . FTC recreated Mego’s iconic Yellow Sleeve Robin figure that every collector swears that Mego actually produced. The truth is that the Yellow Sleeve Robin was created by Mego, the figure simply went through age with his outfit being affected by moisture and humidity, causing the green sleeves and shorts to turn yellowish in color

To be fair here, FTC is better than Mego. For instance, the new bandless bodies for Mego are terrible, whereas the FTC S type bodies are built better and can take more play damage without easily breaking compared to Megos.

Its awesome to these days have so many Mego options . The Flash was a big missing piece back in the day, but (thanks to Captain Marvel tights and boots, Speedy's gloves and simple Flash logo snipped from a comic cover and glued on, and Batman's head altered and repainted) we at least had a shot at a version of one. But no chance of Green Lantern back then. And both in those great boxes too. Who'd have expected it after so many decades. Here's to hoping that Mego keeps it up and FTC decides to focus on public domain superheroes/villains that can fill right in with Mego's line. A Charlton Captain Atom or Nightshade or even any Golden Agers would be awesome

For me, ftc improved on the comic acurate looks. But I'll admit the new mego flash has a better head sculpt than the ftc. Have it in hand and mego green lantern on order.

FTC are more true to the original 70s mego...the hands are smaller on the new mego figures and FTC used snaps instead of velcro and FTC did fix the body issues and FTC gave us the supergals and other figures

FTC brought these figures back from the grave. They did it with respect for the originals and expanded the range. FTC figures are a better made in my opinion. I have the mego 50th Batman and Robin. Great to have but I did not like that they went with the paper stickers which WILL fall off. I know the people at Mego want to be authentic but they've already changed from metal snaps to velcro, and they changed the hands. Why not use emblems that will be more durable and not prone to falling off? FTC has been knocking it out of the park for ten years. FTC will have my hobby dollars first. But I'll be watching Mego for must have figures.

I was so happy when FTC came out with the Mego like DC figures and vehicles/accessories. They were pricey, but so is everything else geared to adult collectors who wanted a reasonable facsimile of their childhood toys. Now with Mego back, and at a lower price point I couldn't be happier. I will keep the FTC figures and Batmobiles I have, but I'm looking forward to getting the Batman, Robin and Superman I just ordered. If these are as good as the originals, I will definitely get more!

I also love my Aquaman vs the Great White Shark set !!! As far as from what I'm seeing here I guess price point would be the biggest factor. But every time I watch videos like this I always go into Pause and Research mode. Yes I pause the video then go into research mode on the topic. And I discovered FTC has a Super Friends Retro Style line that crushes both companies' figures seen here. Yes I know FTC is crushing itself. They look like what you would expect the Superheroes, they have, to look like. I mean I always thought the original Mego superheroes were supposed to be based on either the early Filmation 1960's cartoons or the 1970's Super Friends cartoons, but now I see neither the Mego or FTC seen here captures that all.

I would and will buy whatever either company puts out, even doubles of certain figures don't bother me. Like the Shazam from the line that included the Black Adam and the 50th anniversary ones along with the Red Tornado ones and the Green Lantern Corps figures though those bodies made by Mattel were the shites at least they are figures that Mego didn't make yet. If they do I will buy those also.

4:30 this is history in the making. The current figures are made by the same Mego as before. It's not like it's under different ownership. It's under the same folks; The Abrams family. It's the same company, making the same figures, 50 years later. Your 1975 MEGO Superman, is just as significant as your 2023 MEGO Superman! It's the same damn people 50 years later!!!! We have to be the luckiest people in toy collecting history, because never had this happen before. Yeah we get new retro Star Wars 375 figures from Hasbro, but they're not from Kenner!! Yeah, Hasbro bought Kenner, but it ain't the same. History will appreciate our dedication and I have a feeling 70s Migos and millennium Migos will be held in the same category; identified as "original" and 2.0!

Ultraman was THAT figure, I always wanted produced and never got… I was blown away when I learned of Mego’s license from Tsuburaya. Not an easy license to acquire.

I’m an OG Mego boy here … had almost all in the day as a kid and they are my all time favorite toy line As such I have nothing but love and respect for FTC and what they have brought to the market. And I will continue to buy from them any new heretofore unproduced DC PreCrisis figure in the 70’s Mego style. If they are the first ti drop a Jay Garrick or Alan Scott then they have my money immediately. That said these new 50th Anniversary Megos are second only to the originals and then FTC comes third (a close third at that) OG Mego, New Mego and FTC are all similar in production value for me as eventhough I am not MIB 100%, I am 97% MIB, so any issues in durability don’t matter. The DC Mattel products that had been done in the 8” Mego Styel however were greatly lacking and never got my money even if they had a new unique figure. But FTC (somehow) is almost indistinguishable for me … the only OG DC Mego I have is a Kid Flash, and the FTC is hanging right next to it and they are for all practical purposes twins. So I wish FTC would broaden the line up and hit the B and C Listers as some of there work there is spectacular (Lex Luthor in purple/green suit to name but one) But if new Mego beats them to the punch with a new figure like from the JSA or Legion or TNTT, then new Mego wins. And I do think the Hal head sculpt on the new Mego looks better than the FTC. Make Mine Mego (and FTC … love them both) Thanks MIB!!

Fun video. I think a more apples to apples compare on the Robin Teen Wonder from Mego would have been the Series 6 version from FTC which is similar to what Mego was doing. If Mego stays with the boxes and old school artwork, they will crush FTC every time. They have to stay away from generic packaging on the DC lines. The artwork is too important to the presentation and impulse reaction people have to these figures.

Tough call. The new Mego 50th anniversary line is not an exacting reproduction of the original Mego line. The figures are noticeably taller and on new bandless bodies. Some of the head sculpts on the 50th anniversary line are similar but not 'exactly' the same. However, the FTC WGSH repros seemed to be molded from the original Megos and with the old rubber-banded body type. Neither seem to use the same 'squishy' rubber for the heads that the originals had. The boots, gloves, cloth and capes from the new Mego line and FTC have noticeable differences from the original Mego line too. Other than by owning your own TARDIS, it seems that you just can't shop for 'original' Megos in 2023. That being said, both FTC and the new Mego lines do have some real gems. (if you're young at heart)

Great video! I was hoping you’d do a comparison video. I’ve bought many, many FTC super heroes over the years and I’ll be buying all the Mego 50th reproductions. I LOVE that we are getting these repros (as a good term) from ACTUAL Mego… or as close as we can come 40 years later. I love the new Megos but I really wish they had kept these on the classic Mego body. Don’t get me wrong, I like the new bandless bodies but, for these, I feel they should have utilized the old body just to get as close as possible to authentic, vintage Megos. As much as I love the new ones, there’s just a hint of disappointment knowing these could have been even closer (and it would have been an easy thing to do). At any rate, I’ll still enjoy the new Megos very much and they do hit those nostalgia buttons, big time. I’ll be keeping my FTCs. I think they are an interesting footnote in the history of Mego-style figures… that a completely other company than Mego had the rights to produce full-on Mego replicas. Who would have EVER thought when FTC started making theirs that within a few years we’d get actual Megos of the same figures?!

FTC's quality control is non-existent. When the arm fell off my Jet Jungle kitbash, that was a yellow card. When it fell off the Riddler? Red card. Exit the pitch. End of match play. So shoddy.

Mego has come a long way from being gone for so long and has made top quality figures and has made better bodies and better outfit and FTC has amazing figures and top quality sculpting and for the head and bodies have movable joints for the legs yes FTC has high prices but they offer quality for the price but it's still a bit too high and Mego has good price for the quality they offer and it's available everywhere like in your walmart or target and on their websites and FTC doing retro figures was amazing quality mego has slightly overtaken FTC with all the awesome figures they have out now good good price and quality an easy availability you can just walk into your walmart or target and pick them up or drive there and FTC has good availability and you can get them online and shipped to you another toy shops but the Mego 50th anniversary figures give you that 70s and 80s feel you want and look and mego has taken over with these 50th anniversary and they give you that warm feeling from when you were a kid playing with Mego and yes ftc has created these figures two

It’s pretty easy for me. I’ve looked at the FTC figures over the years and been impressed by how much love they put into the figures and how deep the line has gone, but I had no desire whatsoever to buy one. Nor have I had a desire to buy original Megos as an adult. This is different. I look at these 50th anniversary figures, and it’s 1974 and I’m eight years old again. With FTC and the condition of the average original Mego, I’m reminded that it’s 2022 and I’m 56 years old. I’m not sure if that makes sense or not, but that’s the best way I can describe it. Now what I’d really like to do is grab a handful of those FTC figures, get in a time machine, and visit the nine year old me in 1975. The conversation would go something like this: “Hey…you know how there are all those copies of Giant Size X-Men No 1 sitting at the gift shop in the hospital where Dad works?” “Nobody wants those! They want the REAL X-Men!” “Yeah, whatever. Just round them up for me and I’ll give you these Megos of Hawkman, Atom, Creeper, Dr. Fate, and Black Canary.” “DEAL!!!!”

Mego wins hands down! FTC has made some nice figures and I own the Batman 1966, very good figure. I picked up the Robin at my local Walmart last weekend. Walmart had one Robin and two Superman's no Batman sad to say. Mego 50th Anniversary figures are so well made, and the hang tag comes off very easy. I think FTC should just make cartoon characters and accessories.

Lol I do have issues with the new bodies and think collectors are still going to make changes. I don't really get how mego is still having trouble getting them right when they can look at what's out there that works and doesn't. They address one issue but create a new one. The pegs were to small so the did address that and the ball joint issue but then changed the knee joint which wasn't a problem on the orginal bandless body. The figures look great but if someone was playing with them like we did back in the day they are going to break more than the ones we grew up with. Lol I still have figures from the 70's that are in good shape. I don't see these lasting as well as they did. I do plan on purchasing the Batman and Superman suits with the logos on them that aren't stickers. Plus experiment with the different bodies available.

I’ve always been a Mego fan and collector since I was a small child in the 70’s. I was disappointed by FTC a few years back when I bought a couple of DC figures. The quality wasn’t there but they costed more than Modern Mego figures do. I won’t completely dismiss FTC but Mego is my first action figure love and these 50th anniversary DC figures from Mego are fantastic! I hope to see Marvel 8” figures from Mego soon so we can get all the 70’s Marvel figures that Mego produced then. Mego is #1!

I too, will not be purchasing anymore FTC DC figures. Megos quality with bandless bodies and price point cannot be beat. Mego Green Lantern and Flash are incredible. I did notice FTC is cutting their prices across the board on DC figures, but it is not enough for me to purchase from them anymore.

FTC didn't cut pricing on anything so much as sell the idea that they were cutting pricing by showing an inflated price of $39.99 and marking through it to show their regular price as the "sale price". They need to quit playing games and deal honestly with the public. Whats funny is the boxed '66 figures were bumped back down to $19.99, but when they restock them, they reprice them at $29.99. Its ridiculous looking at the same figures in a line and there is a $10 difference with certain selections with absolutely no differences in what you get. Thats how uncaring and cut throat they are to their customers. No shame...

FTC really need to cut prices for real !!! With Mego actually making Mego figures, FTC should have a serious markdown on their Mego retro figures

I'll be honest. I appreciate FTC for remaking figures that were apparently not on Mego's agenda at the time. I bought several of their DC offerings when it didn't appear that Mego could do 8" DC figures. However, once they did announce they would, I largely stopped buying FTC. I got a few here and there. In many cases, upgrading the ones that I did get by placing them on modern Mego bodies. So, yeah, I have most of the 50th Anniversary figures pre-ordered. All but Shazam, who I JUST got the Topps and wave 15 versions that are much better. But I have no doubt that I'll still be buying clothing and accessories from FTC's online store.

Always valuable comments. The Martian Manhunter and Hawkman are 2 examples of FTC characters that like, and that I hope get converted to Mego.

@@ChrisConnolly-Mr.C-Dives-In I would really love more for a Mego Hawkman and hopefully Hawkgirl. I'd happily pay more for them to have actual plastic wings rather then the cardboard ones FTC did. Call them "deluxe" make them an exclusive. Whatever it takes.

Fantastic comments my friend !!! FTC is not out of the action figure game, but they are out of the Mego retro figure business !!!! FTC has plenty of options with their roster of characters from their many toy franchises
