Jimmy Webb wrote the song about a breakup. He and his girlfriend used to spend time together in Mac Park. Here's what he said about the lyrics: Everything in the song was visible. There's nothing in it that's fabricated. The old men playing checkers by the trees, the cake that was left out in the rain, all of the things that are talked about in the song are things I actually saw. And so it's a kind of musical collage of this whole love affair that kind of went down in MacArthur Park. ... Back then, I was kind of like an emotional machine, like whatever was going on inside me would bubble out of the piano and onto paper.

@@dangerwilrobinson23No, Girogio Moroder played piano, sang backup (20 tracks!), and arranged and directed a full orchestra for the Donna Summer version of this one (he said the horn section was especially tough to get right). There were syndrums, but the rest were real instruments as it wsa the 70s, and sampling hadn't really come into use yet.

This is incredible. I never thought that anyone could take such a classic song from one of the most incredible entertainers ever to sing and make it as relative today as it was in original release. This interpretation of the song has insight (lyrical, emotional, melodic, etc) and is essentially a deeper revelation of moments in the original song that until this moment I thought only Miss Summers was able to convey to her listeners. Chills throughout every second I was listening.

It never left. It's called Dance music now. Disco changed the way music was played in clubs. Before Disco, clubs would play one song completely, and people would stop and go back to their seats. Then they would play another song and so on. Disco introduced the concept of non-stop dancing by mixing one song into another with no stopping in between. The rest is history. The club scene was changed forever with these new types of clubs called discotheques.

This is an incredible version of the Jimmy Webb classic. Webb won the Grammy for his arrangement of Richard Harris' 1969 recording that was wildly popular at the time. Waylon Jennings did a country version of the song in 1970 that earned him a Granmy as well. It wasn't until nearly 10 years later that Donna Summer covered it and made it a smash hit again. And now Micah & Amber crush it yet again with this monster rendition.

The Donna Summer version of MacArthur Park was a cover of the original written by Jimmy Webb, sung by actor Richard Harris. The song did not originate with Summer, and at the time, fans of Webb absolutely hated that his masterpiece had been reduced to a disco remake. I don't know why people are calling this a tribute to Donna Summer; if anything, it corrects Summer's bass-heavy cover to reveal Webb's original, beautiful melodic line.
