We as the audience know of the tragic future of UC. It does not help when the problems of colonial exploitation and crackdowns by the federation continues, which helps Zeon Remnants recruitment drive. Accelerated more with the Titans. Also the cyber newtype labs and the various attempts of perfecting the Exam system be kid friendly. Solari being ignorant of her side using child soldiers and thinking the Federation is the ultimate evil that is a threat to her son and many other kids is the on brand tragedy of Gundam. This franchise is a combo of weak hope, heart breakers and mind fucks. Plus she dodged several massive bullets by staying on Earth. I see the show as a 7/10. Just short of being really good, but far from bad. The crew did a lot a homework on the lore and tone, but there’s a handful of issues most of which come from it being made now, instead of back when the OYW timeline wasn’t as filled to the brim. The show really should’ve taken place at ten very start of the GM’s mass production. The MS all look incredible as well, and as you said the action is pretty well done with such a good finale. Each episode has at least one scene that made me so glad I kept watching. So does it fit in well? No, but it’s great if taken on its own.
@TomHuynh-x9l5 күн бұрын
The problem with RFV it requires massive amount of UC lore to make sense of context and even the ending. We have to keep in mind the characters in universe are ignorant of the terrible future to come. The MSV, art books, and Side stories be giving plenty of world building with a bit retcon to make sense. Code Fairy reveal M particles and the distance between Earth and Space makes communication extremely slow especially reporting the discovery of Fed MS to Zeon HQ in space. The Johnny Ridden MSV manga reveal the Feds centralized their command at Jaburo and the chaotic colony drop combine with M particles made most of the Earth forces isolated and struggling to organize resistance. Both Zeonic front and MS igloo 2 show this disorganized side of the Feds as isolated units fought via costly guerrilla warfare to stall Zeon to a stalemate. Operation Javlin and Trident in the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Theater has the Feds deployed guntanks in May to conduct quick guerrilla warfare and disappeared. MS 08th team has the Feds deploying limited numbers of MS since the summer in the isolated and dense jungles of Asia to explained the combat experience and consumption of limited v project parts. Operations Odessa was a massive organized assault of tanks, aircraft, infantry, and artillery against Zeon’s defenses. The limited amount of MS during Operation Odessa was used mostly as rear line defense/support, special assault operations, and hunting down stragglers. Even in October, the vanilla GM was deployed in limited numbers on certain fronts and didn’t become widespread until after the Jaburo assault in late November. To end my case, Zeon was fucked not just because of the colony drop, but when they set foot on Earth. A small rebel army in a massive foreign land, outnumbered, and lacking resources. If it wasn’t for the MS and M particles, Zeon would not have fought the Feds to a stalemate. Hell, the M particle be double edged that basically cut off communication with their forces that they were literally trapped within the gravity well and worsen post Odessa.

This was better than MS Igloo 2 but not as good as MS Igloo. I watched all of MS IGLOO and I even checked out Gundam Evolve. Right after i was done, i watched all of Gundam Requiem for Vengance, and i can say that thr Japanese CG shows are far superior. The fight scenes in Requiem look so bad when the camera scales back and all the MS are right next to each other shooting point blank. Compare the fight scenes in Requiem to MS IGLOO. The character animations and face ankmation in Requiem are inferior to MS IGLOO a show that first came out in 2004. Bandai Namco should have just used the old MS IGLOO team to make a new series in 0083 or in Zeta Gundam. What a waste.
@scp-11455 күн бұрын
I believe the difference comes from the way they are animated. RfV was using facial and body tracking while the IGLOO did seem to. That would explain why it looked better because the animator was more skilled to not rely on facial tracking. Still, I think it is no excuse for the RfV animator.

This series seemed to cater to people that have never watched a Gundam series from the Universal Century. One the protagonist and one other character seem to be unaffected by the Zeon propaganda. Captain Alfee Zydos is the only one to at least point out that the Zeon soldiers are from space and yet they are on Earth, he doesn't go as far as pointing out that what that means is that Zeon are an invasion force. However, as this is following the Zeon side it isn't a surprise that he would use more positive terminology.

What I basically got from this is that the show is just a worse version of War in the Pocket: instead of showing the nuances of both factions (Federation and Zeon) with a conflict that ends in tragedy highlighting the pointlessness of war, they just decided to do a _reddit subversion_ of _Zeon are actually the heroes_ Also the fact that the events of the show take place in November 0079, a mere month away for the One Year War's end and somehow the characters don't know what the Gundam is, it's beyond stupid, it's like if they made a show that takes place parallel to the events of the Side 7 invasion and the characters not knowing who Char is.

An explanation for Zeon forces not knowing about the Gundam or GMs could be lack of communication. Maybe the communication among Zeon forces wasn’t exactly great on earth, especially for the more isolated squads, or the rumors of the white devil just didn’t make any sense to them. Maybe the knew that the federation had mobile suits but didn’t know what they looked like. OYW lore is pretty full, but plenty of space for isolated squads as well. We keep getting new units from the time period, and I love it.
@TomHuynh-x9l5 күн бұрын
Agree. In Code Fairy, M particle and communication distance between Earth forces and Zeon HQ in space represent a major delay and even lack of communication. It shows that Zeon Earth troops are trapped in the gravity well and even more so after Odessa as their supply line crumbles and forces are picked off in a massive exodus. In attempts to retcon most side story and MSV lore, the federation has deployed limited amount of MS as early as the Summer of UC in the most isolated battlefields such as North Africa, the Middle East, and central/Southeast Asia.
@callmegeorge5 күн бұрын
@ I actually forgot about Code Fairy, and I feel kinda bad about that. Africa definitely lends itself to more stories, Asia and South America are pretty full of lore. North America has some space left open but I feel that the Midwest plains just doesn’t make for exciting combat.
@TomHuynh-x9l5 күн бұрын
@@callmegeorge if anything the Midwest can be about civilians trying to survive a massive global war. Debris from the colony dropped rained on North America. The colony drop was a chaotic humanitarian disaster added on top of a war continuing.

Unlikely, Zeons were encountering GMs in the beginning of the 8th MS Team. Front line Zeons in Southeast Asia had fights with RGM 79 (G) and a few Gundam RX 79 (G)s. The EZ8 was a field custom machine, pretty much made from spare parts. It doesn't even have radiator vents like other Fed mobile suits suggesting a Zeon reactor was used, the EZ8 never used a beam gun. But at this point in the war Zeon already had Doms in the field.

Really the only thing I'm gonna take from this show is the fact that the guy tried to make a gundam show, we got some decent cool mobile suit redesigns( Sadly only 2 of the mobile suits are actually normal releases while the rest are once again PB exclusive) and the fights actually feel like fights. No funnels, no magic nonsense, no kids babbling for 5 minutes about stupid things just people dying and war being an awful awful thing. I would have been fine if the kid did die thus causing the main character to go back to her home but that didn't happen so the writer just had to push and push and push until it gets to a point where I'm screaming stop stop it. Also didn't help that while The mobile suit designs look cool, the human character designs just look so ugly like they should be on a PlayStation 3 or something and while it was cool to see Yuri again, I much preferred him in 8th MS team. For the show is just a mid show, like the author played Zeonic Front but didn't had the rights to adapt it, as for the Zeon characters I thought it was pretty faithful, they wouldn't hold out for 50+ years if they didn't think like zealots freaks.

This was my first gundam show and I liked it a lot! The animation for the humans was rough but the overall story I liked, I’ve just finished your videos on the og gundam show and gundam wing recently though lol and I do think those are definitely better

why is it a gundam specific trope where the enemy stops fighting and starts acting good and then BOOM a gun goes off and kills them
@kindlingking3 күн бұрын
Because core theme of Gundam (and any good Gundam series) is lack of understanding and miscommunication that leads to tragedy. Most confuse it with military action or politics or magic stuff, but those really are just framing devices.

Seeing this as I was just making my own review. I'd give it a 6.8 or a 7. Just about or just short of average. This was much too black and white for me. the ending sucks. she just stays with warmongers so they can monger war. I was actually gonna credit you in a different review following a certain other gundam show with a pink haired woman.

I didn't even finish the series, just a bunch of inconsistent and inaccurate garbage. Mobile suits looked horrible. Facial animations were subpar. 99% of the characters were one-dimensional and the only one who was fleshed out didn't grab my attention one bit.
@Lewis-jn8ry9 сағат бұрын
I was really excited to see the trailers, and then the characters opened their mouths and the voice acting was not up to what I would expect. Just based on the trailers it was enough to put me off. It just goes to show that with a lot of these netflix sponsored/ original anime or anime based movies they're either horrible like the latest castlevania nocturne series or amazing the original castlevania.

Maybe because I’ve watched so much Gundam, but I saw the back stab coming as soon as the newtypes started speaking. That being said I still didn’t like the weak death of the Gundam pilot. The last 8 minutes of the show went from an alright show to an meh.

I know the Federation aren’t saints, but I'm getting tired of seeing U.C stories paint them as bad guys and factions like Mafty and Zeon are the good guys for standing up to them. Both sides are at fault, but every faction who are against the Federation are worse regardless on thier goals or ideology.

small thing i want to bring up there is a scene when a beam saber and heat hawk lock blades which i dont think is possible or ever happens in any of gundam ( unless someone wants to prove me wrong) it just really bugs me for some reason when i saw it
@kindlingking3 күн бұрын
I'm pretty sure is does happen in the original show, definitely in Zeta and probably in Thunderbolt. I don't know the science of it, but, yes, heat hawk's blade can stop beam saber, but only blade, any other part gets cut. The same is true for heat rods and heat sabers.

The main issue I felt was that it didn’t adequately establish the conflict between the characters. They spend the majority of the series just kind of running around without any real purpose other than a vague sense of trying to survive. Additionally, the story has a really big issue with telling is stuff rather than actually showing examples of what they are talking about. The mobile suits look cool and so do the fights but that’s all that it seems to have going on it.

I had to think about it but the zeon pilots ignorance might be the point. They are kept in the dark on what everyone is doing to keep them in line if they aren’t screaming space racists. That’s y the main character does something that for informed viewers is janky as hell but to a watcher that’s just as inn he rant as her it makes sense. I only say this because this is a 0079 story that does not mention the colony drop. I could be wrong however

@kindlingking3 күн бұрын
Which makes no sense, because it's production got cancelled because of a data leak (even if it was intentional as part of the spy operation). All three functional Assault Guntank units were at the battle of Odessa and got destroyed, how the hell there's like a dozen more of them? I also really love RX-440, but it should've been normal Guntanks, especially considering all they do is offer artillery support rather than do any assaults.

For me It's pretty good(?) the Very Last ending scene is atrocious tho. That few minutes just told me the showrunner don't understand Gundam at all. I really like the show's approach. People hate the Zeon propaganda but what the fuck did you expect from a Zeon POV? This is not Star Wars, Babying you Sith's order is bad even in Sormtrooper's MC Pov. Though better characterization on top of that will do great. It repeats what Gundam has been telling everyone but in a unique package. In the Pov of a much more fragile Zaku. No more Op mobile suit protagonist. But the ending... BRUH she better be back with her kid, pick up violin and live her life preaching peace not kill even more pilots, potentially children. Where the hell is the lesson go to? I know she didn't know Zeon will lose so she fights but she should know Zeon Invade Earth first. How to end the war is by letting it go.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the show sucks. I quite liked it, aside from the usual complaints about the human models and the pink haired LT in my case. I hate her voice actor's performance, and she just kinda felt like a stand in from the production team. I didn't have a problem with the side character's dialogue or think it was Zeon propaganda. I mostly heard soldiers doing their duty to their country, one time Zabi/Zeon Zum Deikun philosophy got brought up it got criticized, in context of newtypes. Otherwise it was like, we're soldiers fighting for one cause and they're enemy soldiers defending. They're gonna try to kill us. I agree about the epilogue being unnecessary. I understand the want to include it to bookend Iria's story while leaving it open for future projects, but I think they could've done something differently there. As it is, her choice of action after Odesza is like counter intuitive to her motivations for the entire series. I didn't necessarily think it was a heavy handed message or anything, I just thought it was lazy. Oh yeah I forgot, I had issues with the timeline too on my now third watch earlier today. I had a friend over to watch it since they don't have Netflix, big Gundam fan. We were having issues coming to a consensus about events and when this took place relative to what was on the field by then, aka GMs. The show takes place sometime in November, I didn't catch the date. As far as the original MSG goes, GM's first appeared at the Battle of Jaburo on Nov 30. If we consider 08th MS Team as well since we've got the Major General here, Ground Type Gundams and Ground Type GMs were on the battlefield in October. I think there's room for this to work here.

I agree with every said about this show. The writing, dialog, and ending was awful. The only good things were the some of the fighting and MS models. What also upset me, was some of the military decisions the Z forces made. Marching into a territory in what looks like a parade line???? Making camp without active patrol or MS pilots ready or on lookout.... Trying to push throw a checkpoint with only and armored car against two tanks.... Holding the scrap yard with little to no supplies, MS models, or air support. I refuse to believe that this unit of Zeon forces are so full of themselves that they never heard of a Gundam or ever lost friends or family. Not to mention they act like they had not dropped a colony on Earth killing millions of people. So when the Zeon characters lose friends and family, "oh no" the federation and the Gundam MS are the worst and demons. Writers don't seam to know or understand war.

personally, it did bother me why the soldiers here aren't are what GMs and the Gundam is since this was nearing battle of Odessa, I had the feeling it was the writer/director's oversight, it's fine i guess but if you're someone who's into UC it kinda sticks like a sore thumb since at this point you're aware that everyone knows what a gundam and Gms are.
@johnpine51714 күн бұрын
I agree with all of your points! I watched the show and I didn’t like the Zeon propaganda too. I’m not pro Federation, but I really can’t stand when Zeon says “We’re fighting for all spacenoids, blah blah blah” when they probably killed more spacenoids than the Federation. But the fights were cool and I liked the designs of the machines (Zakus, Goufs, GMs, Guntank, etc), except the Zaku tank. Sorry Zaku tank fans but the thing is just stupid, the Guntank (or Assault Guntank in the show) has more weapons and it doesn’t have a bright light that makes it easier to see it at night. Also, just a smal critic about the show, I felt like the main character (I don’t remember the name) seemed to survive the Gundam because of plot armor. She was at it’s mercy, but lived because a Zaku tank shot it (basically did nothing to the armor) and the Gundam forgot to kill her like most of the other pilots to fight the Zaku tank. That happens in a lot of shows, but if I was piloting the Gundam I would have killed her and the engaged the Zaku tank. I think if they made the fight so her Zaku got disabled while fighting the Gundam and she escaped the machine while other Zakus attacked the Gundam in melee so she could escape before the Gundam destroyed her machine it would have been better.
@kindlingking3 күн бұрын
Zaku Tank isn't supposed to be an actual unit, it's a cobbled up abomination made from busted Zaku and Magella chassis. It's very strange how there were like 10 of them in the show, as if that's a real unit. I think those should've been Zaku Cannons instead or at the very least all different from eachother.

I'm half way through the show right now and it's hard to watch it. I don't like Solari (Mostly because of the argument she had with the Major) and I think her conclusion in the end is genuinely stupid. Other than the mobile suit fighting scenes the animation is really weird like I've genuinely NSFW animators on rule34 do better. Anyway the only zeon soldier I stand behind is Cima Garahua.

I like the show for the mobile suit fights but this is what i told my friends about the show "Its a Gundam show which is good. What bad is that its a Gundam show." Gundam has many story that are good some that are bad but the one thing that bad about them in my opinion is there to many time it stop what its doing to talk about some pointless stuff in the middle of a battle. Now like I said that my opinion and some of what that talk about is right but still there timing could be better and one question i thought operation Odeaes start October 15th when they are attack Odeaes it self? Just did it change or was it always like this i just don't know as stuff like that changes alot and i did watch your one year war videos there great i told my friends and my DM for my gundam rpg game so we can try to be lore accurate as possible. I do want to get a Gundam story in the middle of the war before White Base goes to Earth you know the four or five mouth that there no content for would be great.
