Hi Bob, Great Pen - the Cigar is one of my very favorite pen styles. I noticed in both of your pens that you used the "standard" Cigar bushings. The standard lower body, center bushing, is 0.53 inches in diameter. This is the outside dimension of the rounded metal ring on the coupler. The inside diameter on this ring is 0.49 inches. The standard busing causes a shelf-like appearance on the blank where it butts up against the rounded coupler. Many folks simply remove the bushing and use a caliper to reduce it down to 0.49 inches to remove the shelf. Ed Brown from Exotic Blanks designed an improved bushing set (part number EKB-11A) that replaces the standard 0.53 inch bushing with one that is 0.49. In my opinion it improves the fit significantly. Regardless, the Micarta pen turned out great. Thanks for your turning videos, I always look forward to what you are up to. Best Regards, Dave

I've made many Cigar pens with the standard bushings myself. The "shelf" isn't really that noticeable, but Ed put me on to the inside-outside diameter situation. He took his inspiration for the improved fit bushings from the PSI Gatsby. The Gatsby kit has a double, rounded/radiused trim ring on the center band, but the standard Gatsby bushings are made so the blank fits on the "flat" of the trim rather than out on the OD of the radius. At first I just sanded a little radius in that one spot after turning to soften the transition between the blank and the trim ring, but the improved bushing makes it much easier.

The coke can strip with pencils drilled randomly you tried angling the pencils too .
