Met him in person when he came to Trinidad and had a guitar clinic. Had dinner with him along with the people who organized the clinic ! He is so humble and down to earth. A lot of musicians with their pompous ego could take a page from his book.

Saw a interview where he said he learned guitar to annoy his sister, growing up. I'll take that any day over the great rock-star mythologies people try to weave. He's real. I do wish he'd leave the over the neck type gimmickry alone; just playing orthodox kick-ass hard rock guitar, he's a beast.

I went to one of his clinics and he was a total dick, ignored a lot of people's questions and was a condescending prick. hahahaha Just kidding just as you said he was friendly and patient with players of all levels. Dude I still remember, back in 2010, when I first watched this video. I was 15, starting to play the electric guitar. I wanted to be able to play like that man. Today, at 25 years of age, I managed to play on live television, I have an album on Spotify and played in many gigs. Michael man, I used to study using your Metal Method videos. I am so grateful. I aspire now not to have your splendid technique anymore, but to be as a professional, charismatic and energetic human being as you are. Thank you so much.

Sounds like an awesome journey man! Hopefully you can take some time to answer a guitar question of mine. But how do I get faster at playing? Do I just need to play a riff a million times until I can play it lightning fast? Or is there some technique/exercise I can use to help me get faster? Thanks man, and keep on rocking 🤘

I met MAB after a guitar clinic at Rochester's House of Guitars. He was friends with my now ex-wife. So Michael, the ex, my 2 youngest son's (16 and 14 at the time) and the 16 year son's buddy all hung out afterwards and later went to dinner. After he finished his set walking to the "green" room back stage he asked me what I thought ( of course I knew of him since OFr Nitro days) and I stopped walking, put my arm around his shoulders, looked him in eye and told him he had no technique. LOL. He was gracious, interesting, funny and kind. He regailed us with awesome about EVH, Uli Roth, Shemker and a slew of greats and his contemporaries. Fascinating, humble and witty. Stellar musician and incredible human being!

I've been playing guitar for over 40 years (delta blues, classic rock, very little neo-classical). I don't think I've ever seen this level of technical mastery combined with this level of intensity. I was genuinely scared at several points because it was like watching a nuclear reactor going off close-up. The enemy of great playing is getting too excited while doing it, yet that excitement still has to be present to convey the emotional content. It's a genuine understatement to say that most people have never experienced this level of intensity at any moment of their lives, let alone have the ability to switch it on like this (and somehow live with this nuclear reactor inside the rest of the time as if some ordinary mortal). Much Respect.
@SKRUBL0RD Жыл бұрын
i had that level of intensity with your mother last night

Pretty much..yeah It has to be a helluva comedown for him when he stops, and pretty nerve wracking if he ever wants to turn it off but he can't...like if he's trying to sleep or something and his mind is still racing thinking of notes and riffs I don't think other skills like woodworking or computer programming have as much room for mastery as guitar does...pulled those examples out of my ass so I could be wrong, but I can't really see there being a Michael Angelo batio of fishing lol

I don't comment a lot on videos, but as a lifetime fan of rock 'n roll I believe MAB deserves some credit. His tributes of various artists, especially this one for Randy, really speak to me. The discussion of who is the greatest guitar player, or greatest whatever, will always be a subjective one. Regardless, in my own personal opinion, MAB has to be right up there with the greats and definitely one of the best all out shredders I've ever heard.

Exactly! And when he shreds he knows exactly what he's doing, and what I love about MAB is that he takes a famous riff, like in this video, and improvises in the same scale that exact riff is written in. Ok that didn't make much sense. The part at 03:05 is what I'm talking about.

I saw him live in 1990 with "Nitro" I was absolutely completely blown away and was surprised . Being a bass player.... I listened to nitro and thought... "there is no way" so I went to see him live with the rest of my musician friends.. and i will tell you.. there is nothing fake about what this guy can do. TO describe Nitro, (his band @ that time) they had the longest hair, the craziest show, the best musicians there were. The drummer was incredible, the bass player was incredible, the singer was incredible and then there is mike... check out his old band.... they take extreme to the extreme of extreme and then make that extreme.
