Cruz is simply a highly intelligent & thoughtful guy, which allows him to formulate interesting & original opinions. Importantly, he is comfortable putting those opinions forward even if they’re offensive or controversial. He also finds ways to put them forward with humour a lot of the time. I’d say that those skills, combined with the fact that he listens intently to his colleagues make him capable of pairing well with anyone.
