Leafs fan here. I can’t speak for all but I watched gm 1 of the kings and oilers and with no bias on either side and I thought the Oilers got shafted by the calls especially at the end of the game.. Kings got away with a lot more than those weak calls on the Oilers

Earlier in the game he skated at Cernak after the play intending to do his niggling little shoulder on shoulder contact thing he does every game. Cernak saw him coming lowered his shoulder and put Bunting on his ass making him look like a punk. A normal Player would have laughed it off and enjoyed the free power play, but Bunting isn't normal so decided to take revenge.

I would make an argument against a head check cause usually a in head check situation, your head will whip back (usually the cause of a concussion) but if you watch the slow motion, he continued watching the play. That being said, not trying to argue the call but I would make a case for it not to be a head check.

Did you watch the game live? If you did and the second you saw that hit and thought "ya, game misconduct." fair, but you are lying. It is the right call but there was a lot of horrible calls this game. No cross-check cross-checking penalty, The slashing penalty that was no where close to hands or an aggressive slash. But, even with those bad calls, leafs earned and deserved the loss. Bunting should get 3 games for that, as a leafs fan.

Toronto fan here, but that is an easy one, and should be a suspension. Bunting springs upward, changes direction to make contact, I don't think first contact is with the head but the elbow definitely makes head contact. I suspect that the league would even seriously consider that premeditated and retaliatory after Cernak took a roughing penalty against Bunting earlier in the period. No idea what the league will do, I would guess that this is 3 games in the regular season and probably just 1 in the playoffs, but you never know what the DPS will do

I've been saying that Bunting needs to steel himself for what's to come in the postseason. He was heavily targeted by TB in last year's series, and it stands to reason that it was going to be worse this year when you consider how his reputation with the officials has developed (negatively). Definitely a penalty but schenn & Kampf penalties were definitely not & these are the kinda things that happen when the refs don’t reff the game properly, gave Tampa 2 pp goals when the leafs had all the momentum down by 1, still no excuse for bunting but you see this constantly around the league

@@davemason4055 Watch Cernaks movement. at 0:45 he knew Bunting was there. 81 curled toward Bunting with a low posture like he was going to lean up into him. In fact he had started to lean up into him but got caught while still low. And Bunting's reaction immediately afterward.... Bunting was expecting to be hit and wasn't which is why at 0:49 Bunting raises his left hand like "wtf?" I'm not making excuses for Bunting, but it sure seems to me he thought he was about to get hit and made a defensive move to accept/meet Cernaks intention.
