His guitar is not restrung for left handed playing. He's one of the few that just plays it upside down to amazing effect.

i play the guitar left handed - but i can't understand how michael plays a right handed guitar left handed

I've not heard Michael explain why he plays a right handed guitar upside down, but I do know that it is hard to find left handed guitars- especially when he was young especially if you were looking for a used one or even if you looked for a new one in a store to try out first before you bought and did not want to order one sight unseen and untested. What I noticed in this video is that Michael is using a thumb pick. Not unusually for finger picking BUT the tremble strings are ON TOP since he is playing upside down - that means the thumb pick is playing the trebles - ! My favorites are when its just Michael and his guitar. Elizabeth Cotten plays this way - she wrote Freight Train when she was just a kid.
