Mick Collins was and always will be a Beacon of hope’ a light in the darkness’ a stray spark to a can of petrol’ for if any lesson can be brought from his life and death it is this “it’s not how many you shoot god damn it! It’s who you shoot” for a bunch of 14 to 30 year lads brought the empire to there knees with nothing more than a handful of shells and few webley pistols’ his story is one of inspiration for people who are oppressed by tyranny and he will go down in history as one of Ireland’s greatest sons’ a true diamond in the dust! I pray that in my lifetime I see a fully united Ireland.

My father grew upnear Beal na mBlath. He knew many of the people involved, and the events around the ambush. Collins, he suspected, was killed by his own driver. That driver was ex British army, and disappeared. Locals who saw Collins bidy before it went to Cork city, recognised the wound as being close up. Why was Collins shot? The obvious answer may not be correct. I suspect Collins refused to have a British / Vatican controlled Irish Central Bank. The real control of Ireland remained in the hands of the money controllers in London and Vatican.
