i love this guy...i saw him on the smothers brothers back in the day...so fun to watch these clips...i appreciate humor but i am not moved to laughter very often...the howling cowboy really caught me off guard...so whacky...made me laugh long and hard...just a great performance.

Throwingstick, you must mean Seasick Steve stole that line, since his album with that title came out in 2009 and the Michael Davis appearance on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show predated SS's album by at least 15 years. Actually, the line has been around far longer than the 1990s, and I believe it originated in vaudeville.

I remember watching this in a Hotel room when I was 12, staying up late to see him, because he had just married my cousin not long before and I was going to be seeing him soon. I believe Tom Hanks was on the same show that night, and to this day I still have a piece of paper from Tom Hanks that he gave Michael with a little note on it.

@ throwingstick: Lighten up, my friend. Comedians, especially back in vaudeville, have always stolen material and used it to suit their own acts. Milton Berle even recommended that. It's just a funny line. Nobody "owns" the joke.
