@@edsharp1982 Definitely top 5. Easy. There's no director out there that has as much control of every single thing in the frame as he does. He's an absolute surgeon. He hates being called a perfectionist but that's exactly what he is. His movies all look like top of the line gourmet food. Visual gourmet, if you will.

@@joaosantos5503 Kubrick, kurasowa, Scorsese, Bergman, Hitchcock, Fellini, Pasolini, Truffaut, Orson Welles… If we are talking greatest of all time, it’s a long list before we get to Fincher. I’d say he’s definitely top ten *living* American directors though

@@edsharp1982 Not that long a list tbh. I wouldn't put Scorsese above him, for example. Fincher's one of the few directors out there that has pretty much created his own style. You can look at one of his films and instantly go "yep, this is a Fincher flick" whereas with Scorsese that ain't the case. Not a lot of visual consistency between his body of work. Whereas with Fincher you can tell he's almost always in control of, well, pretty much every teeny tiny little thing, really. I'd also put folks like Nolan below Fincher. Easily. Hell, Nolan to me would be below Scorsese. I think the dude's way overhyped. Still a good director regardless. I agree with Kubrick and Kurosawa, though.
