Like Shakespeare, the greatest music is such that can be interpreted in many styles, for many instruments. Phenomenal arrangement and execution, and a credit to the greatness of the original.

just amazing to me how many people act like they can do it better, or comment on how he doesn't understand classical music lol. A, its music, music is art, in art there is no right or wrong, good or bad is in the eye of the beholder, and it seems like common sense to me to judge what i hear based on weather or not i like it, and not weather or not i think its good. The only person who know if its good or not is mr fix himself, did he accomplish what he wanted to? You people who assign point values and argue over who is the best guitarist and all that crap, your not artists, your clones. Your trying to do it the "RIGHT" way. That's why we don't see videos of you performing in front of hundreds if not thousands of people, you simply don't get it. There is no right way . . .

You don't have to be a great cook to know the food is bad... now, i don't say this is bad.. the man's got skills.. and if i weren't studying classical music (and even analysed this toccata and fugue) i wouldn't be so critical... but the only thing that's bothering me here is the title.. it says Toccata and Fugue in D minor... there is not even a little tiny bit of Fugue... this is just an improvisation on Toccata motives.. and it sounds cool! (i prefer Bach's version though) but the problem is that no one knows what fugue actually is... it's most complicated form of music ever created... and Bach developed it to it's perfection... the problem is probably no one knows what toccata is either.. (although this could be a toccata on guitar)... that's what bothers me... i would like them to change the title xD... BTW, i've watched other Michael Fix videos and he's really really good! :)

Antonio Ivan Šangulin since Bach wasn't actually able to walk into a recording studio when he lived over 250 years ago now we do not know exactly what he wanted out of his orchestra do we? Yeah sure we can read his music but just like a particular religious artifact the Hebrews penned about 2000 years ago, meaning often gets lost in interpretation and translation. History on things that are a lot less based on interpretation then classical music is being amended all the time. Bach is my favorite Baroque composer myself and although i only studied a few semesters of music, I find your stubborn idea of Mr. Fix's interpretation curious. If you listen to 10 different orchestras perform the same piece you end up with 10 completely different interpretations . . . with that being said, Michael Fix may be far superior to any living man on the subject of classical music, or, he may not know a thing about it, but i know that one man performing a piece written for an orchestra should be givin' a little room to interpret and adapt, maybe if he doesn't "fugue" enough for ya (lol sorry had to), maybe its not because he doesn't understand, perhaps it was artistic license. Saying he doesn't understand is a bad assumption is incredibly insulting.

Dylan Woodring Thank you! :D
@skytale3510 жыл бұрын
Dylan Woodring all i know for sure guitarrisimo or whatever the dudes name is posted this video, called it toccaata and fugue in D minor, I wasn't at this show, i don't know how he announced it, perhaps he announced it as "my variation on Toccata and Fugue" lol, maybe he didn't announce it at all. I simply don't know, wasn't there, and the video doesn't include an introduction to the song (if there was one) and therefore i don't have enough information to presume some level of ignorance on Mr. Fix's part. You got me on the Organist part, kind of, yes this piece was 100 percent Organ, a lot . . . if not most of his work however was Orchestral in nature wasn't it? Brandenburg Concertos seem to come to mind . . . but hell its been so long those may have been written by Yosemite Sam for all i know. Having not heard the original version in anything other then Halloween commercials for about 20 years (since i was in Junior High) I remembered it wrong. . . so shoot me. All i know is he did a bad ass job on a classic song and i read a comment that he needs to learn what . . . bullshit. Sorry, you can try to spruce it up with all the pseudo-intellectual bullshit you want. A, it was beautiful, B, someone else presumably uploaded this song and titled it C, presuming that Mr. Fix is somehow too stupid to understand the music that he is playing and interpreting is just that, presumptive (based only on how the video is labeled). Maybe he took Artistic License with a song written over 300 years ago. Maybe the purpose was to destroy an incredibly bad image that classical music was for stuffy arrogant bastards who would rather intellectualize an art form then enjoy it. And as for "form" being something you don't fuck with, well, guess what, he did, and it worked. I've heard of this dude before, he knows how to satisfy a crowd. Do you?
@skytale3510 жыл бұрын
ok, im not searching for it, but the quote was something to the effect of "he obviously doesn't know anything about classical music", that is an insult, and its an assumption. It is an assumption you or whoever it was made based on some bad assumptions. And, actually, the title is not entirely incorrect. I mean, it really is Toccata and Fugue in D minor by name isn't it. Classical pieces usually have more of an identifier then a name right. If you wanted to hear this piece, that is what you would type into a search engine. So, you would identify this tune as being Toccata and Fugue anyway, when i found this version, i was looking for an acoustic guitar translation of toccata and fugue (toccatta and fugue acoustic guitar) in the search engine, and this is the first video that popped up, correctly identified . . . kind of, add the word adaptation, or interpretation and its all good. Either way it doesn't speak positive or negative about his implied ignorance. Incorrectly labeled perhaps, but i'm done arguing minutia.
