The large Doctor Strange image with all the detail is from a portfolio release from the early 80s. Golden said he thought in color and form, not line. He couldn't adapt to hatching and feathering techniques, so he had to create his own line art language that influenced almost every artist since.

The large fold-out with Ms. Marvel chest-up shot over full body Rogue holding Thor and Iron Man by the neck is Michael Golden's version of the cover to Avengers Annual #10 which he never got to do. Instead we got Allen Milgrom's rush-job cover. Great video guys!

Love The Nam. Much clearer to read, a fantastic blend of cartooning and realistic vehicles, sort of reminiscent of Herge but in Golden's own style.

Seeing Golden's work like this makes me realize I'd love to see Robert Williams comic artwork get the artist edition treatment. His Zap stories are bananas in concept and detail.

If you dig the black & white Nam stories, definitely hunt down the Nam Magazine. They released all of Michael Golden's issues. It's rad! 🔥✒️🖤🖋🔥

Thank you for this. I ordered it as soon as I saw this video. I missed out on the Micronauts book as the company I purchased it from never delivered and kept my money, but I digress. This looks to be better than the Micronauts book as it finally reprints the 5th to the 1st. There is an Amazing Adventures book that also has some fantastic Golden work that would’ve worked here as well. I hope this isn’t the last book on Golden. I have the G.I.Joe yearbook artists edition as well. Seeing Golden in color is one thing. Seeing him in black and white…no words. I also hope they would do a DC book as well with those Batman covers as well as the Nightwing covers he did. And Don’t forget the Batman Special and Batman family stuff he did. More Golden. Still my favorite artist hands down and I grew up on Byrne and Perez.

I managed to try out the Marvel Fanfare issue with 3D glasses I happened to have close by. I can say for sure it’s a fun read when you’re looking at the pages under red & blue lenses and how much the art pops out.

American Splendor Retrospective would be nice. It was one of those rare titles that made me realize the depth tcomics could convey. Huge fan. I discovered by reading the Bob and Harv Comics that was translated and publsihed in Finland. Also, you guys might want to check out Paco Roca's *"The Winter of the Cartoonist"* which tells the story of a group of Spanish comic book artists during the Franco era leaving their job at a big publisher to start their own creator owned magazine. Quite exciting and interesting piece of european comic book periodical history

I was introduced to Michael Golden a few years ago, and I can attest, that he is anything but self-effacing. Or more appropriate quite full of himself. That said, his work I did love growing up. The Avengers annual was a treasure to me as a kid.

What stunned me the most in the Edition was that I don't see any human hand in the art. There are no pencil lines , no errors and very little white out. It's amazing.

I’m surprised they didn’t have the mail away marvel universe poster shown. I was thankful they re-released a version “recently”. Incredible line work, he definitely inspired a lot of artists.

I was looking forward to seeing some of the g.i.joe stuff but i assume that because marvel hasn’t had the license from marvel in a while they couldn’t include it? I don’t know if you mentioned that at some point? I might have missed it. Maybe even there’s already an artists edition of just the joe stuff? I’m ignorant of such things. Love you guys.

There is an Artist edition of just the GI Joe Yearbook #2 by IDW. They published it as a Portfolio, loose pages where one side has the printed page, the other side has the word balloons removed. The owner of the original art is an art dealer who had them removed and put on an overlay.

McFarlane metioned him as an influence in style and you can totally see here. the angles, layout of panels, amount of detail, and cartoony shapes of mouths, eyes and noses all present in McFarlane's work.

Please consider reviewing books entirely penciled and inked by George Perez. In my opinion, the following 3 comic books by George Perez represent the pinnacle of comic book superhero illustration. The New Teen Titans #39 published in February 1984 The New Teen Titans #1 published in August 1984 The New Teen Titans #2 published in October 1984 If I remember correctly, George Perez also penciled and inked Sachs & Violens #1 and #2 published in 1993 and 1994 but those books are obviously not superhero books. Still great stuff.

Some great work in this book but his horrible attitude (in my personal experience) has turned me off. Little nugget: he refuses to sign the IDW Modern Marvel Covers (and probably this edition as well) unless you pay a crazy price. Note the stamp on the '96 Wolverine Annual, "Please Return the Original. Return to Michael Golden".
