I liked the combination of Infantino/Austin best....match made in heaven...and those Walter Simonson covers...man...

Its refreshing to see Star Wars that doesn't indulge in fan theories, canon facts or pseudo analysis. This (Cartoonist Kayfabe) is how cultural analysis should be: professionals talking about syntax and their craft. Not a nerd ranting about how the current cultural products doesn't match his childhood standards. Great job as always, guys.

Wonderful book my uncle got this book because it was supposed to be the Empire Strikes back issue. I love Terry Austin's inks on this and Dr. Strange they did together!

page 2 panel 2 Golden lifted it from a piece of McQuarrie concept art. super dope.

I can see the anime influences in Golden’s work but also references closer to home. Princess Leia’s proportions remind me of Frank Frazetta’s female figures and there’s a suggestion of Al Capp, Vaughn Bode and Ralph Bakshi (circa Wizards) in Golden’s figure and facial work. Side note: I would to see CK explore Mike Ploog’s work (Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night, Man Thing, Planet of the Apes). I think Ploog got to Marvel before Golden but they were contemporaries.

Y'all need to interview Golden. He's a good guy. Funny. I always make time to chat with hm at NYCC and he is always gracious and accommodating and patient with my geeking out. lol.

Yeah I'd want to talk about Micronauts of course.

One of my favorite all time comic issues is Howard the Duck Magazine #6 "Duckworld," done by Bill Mantlo and Michael Golden. Howard goes back to his home planet and finds out he's become a religious figure amongst his fellow ducks and we see a mirror world where all the political craziness of 60's and 70's happened on Howard's world too but w/ducks. Man, I don't know it blew my mind when I was 13 and still to this day I think of it as the gold standard of comix satire and art. Michael Golden was woefully underappreciated.

I was not a regular ST reader back in the day, but I remember buying this issue specifically because Golden was drawing it. Loved his stuff from Micronauts and thought that he was going to start a new run with ST. Didn't turn out that way obviously. Today, I remember it as the last ST book where Leah and Luke were actually lovers. LOL.

Please cover Larry Hama & Michael Golden’s Bucky O’Hare series. I always thought it was a nice mix of Star Wars & TMNT that somehow got overlooked despite having a decent cartoon series, toy line, and two great video games. In the comic, Bucky meets this omnipresent Roman Mouse-like character that’s so bizarre. I’d love to hear your opinions on the series!

His Doctor Strange stories with Roger Stern are my favourite Michael Golden works. A brief, but exquisite, collaboration, and one worth covering.

Oh man! I’ve been hoping for this one: my favourite issue of Marvel Star Wars and introduction to Golden’s work. So much to learn about crafting comics just from this. It was a beautiful, well-written hard break between the blocky proportions of the pre-Empire style and the more realistic style (then onto open line, stylized fashion-plate) that followed. The only other lightsaber fight that was as well done might be Luke vs Lady Lumiya in the final issues; lots of silent battle pages there.

It seems like Golden got inspiration from EC comics, funny animals, underground comics, Euro comics, and probably manga. It's really incredible

Nice works as usual, gentlemen! Golden's wonkiness here reminds me of the animated segments from the Star Wars Christmas Special.

I was waiting for this one. We know that Golden's going to kill it, but Archie Goodwin always delivers as well, often on the fly. His work is so unassuming and pared down; he may have had the least amount of ego of any writer in comics. He was also a knowledgeable fan who came out of EC fandom and was a pretty good cartoonist, all of which no doubt helped him communicate with artists.

Love Golden. Love this issue. I remember picking up several copies when it was on the stands. My only problem is that the story is something more suited for Star Trek than Star Wars.

Will you be discussing the new Shang-Chi movie, compared to Paul Gulacy's original art and vision from the 1970's? Which I loved. I hated when other artists worked on Shang-chi. Gulacy's vision was far superior to the hacks like Sal Buscema who butchered the stories with art that looked like a 6th-grader drew it.

Golden definitely left Star Wars on a high note. Shame for the fans though.
