Great episode. I was a teenager when Mickey was playing and he makes an interesting point about the teams decline starting with the influx of foreign players. Sunderland was never going to be the type of club where continental players thrived. I suspect there were other reasons why the club went in that direction. Probably worth checking which agent done the most work with the club and their relationship with the club. Also, their bonus scheme was crazy. Think what the bonuses would be at the huge rich clubs. Insane. Sunderland are still paying for those actions now.

Andy Marriott played for Wrexham in goal, he was a cracking goalie for us and he was on the most money by a Country mile. Wrexham were struggling for money and all the lads who were mostly on shocking money by the way chipped in to have Sky at the training ground. He wouldn’t even chip in for that. He carried them to the UEFA Cup Final (look at the teams they beat along the way). World Cup 1994 not 'world wide' enough as well? I stand by what I said, ignorance. To say Larsson only got world wide recognition AFTER Scotland is completely wrong. I'm sure even within the interview Parkin also stated he only watched Celtic v Rangers games, then didn't care about the rest (words to those effect). I knew of Larsson even before he went to Scotland, so it depends what you class as world wide recognition. I would say Feyenoord are a 'world wide' known team, which is where Larsson first came to my attention. However, maybe I just don't have the ignorant view point about certain leagues in the football world like many Sky generation football fans appear to (you guys have fallen into that trap as well). Blinkered about one league and one league only.
