He was one with the guitar, body, mind and spirit. He only wanted to please his listeners. He went on tour in Japan. A Japanese guitar company made a double neck guitar, customized just for him. They presented it as a gift to him. I watched him play it at Shiver hall, Johns Hopkins Univerisity. It was fantastic!!!

Got to meet Michael in Kalamazoo Mi. As he came out into the audience and had my youngest Brother with me. Got his Autograph and chatted with him a little bit. Pleasant memory because both Michael and my Brother are gone now. I used to go to his shows and really miss what used to be a ritual dance for me yearly.

I've finally started checking out this guy's work, and he's a fantastic musician. With how prevalent rhythmic acoustic guitar playing is now, it's a little sad, considering when he passed away, he probably had no idea how much of an impact he made on the scene. Watching these old live performances reminds me of how sweet and short life can be.

Michael Hedges is underrated if anything. All these guys you see today - Andy Mckee, Preston Reed, Erik Mongrain, John Butler - they all got their chops from watching Michael Hedges videos and scratching their heads. He literally invented this style of playing. And let's not forget how unique his compositions are and how interesting and dynamic a performer he was. T.Emmanuel is a hoot and a brilliant *player*, but aside from his "Initiation" tune he's just a fun entertainer.

Anyone out there who remembers the great radio station out of W. MA WRSI back in the 80's, maybe until latest early 90's when the station was sold, I would hear Michael Hedges....that was the kind of radio station it was. Lost track of Michael for years on end, then came to realize that he had been killed years earlier in a car accident. I was floored. I loved his style. Wish I could see more vids of him and Leo Kotke playing together....have only seen 1 so far and it wasn't really a performance, it was off in the sidelines where they were just jamming together...it's somewhere here on Y/Tube.

Michael is a hero and when I play in public , (which is not that often) I always cite Michael's influence on my playing. There are a few guitarists out there always worth mentioning. Andy McKee, Tommy Emmanuel, Presto Reed etc. Michael did use a chorus as a compositional tool, its worth checking out his book (co authored with John Strope) in which he is very open about his pick ups, effects, techniques and settings. The world has been a little darker since Michael died. RIP Michael.

This is my favorite song of his. When I was in college I wrote a song & interpretive dance to this… Here are the words (it’s a dialogue… I’ll mark the people 1- and 2 - ) 1 - Won’t you come with me? Won’t you come with me? We can travel the world together & the mountains? Won’t you come with me? Won’t you come with me? We can travel the world together & the oceans? 2 - No I can’t go. No I can’t go… with you. No I can’t go. No I can’t go… with you. 1 - I Love You 2 - I Love You 1 - I Love You … Won’t you come with me? Won’t you come with me? We can travel the world together & the mountains? Won’t you come with me? Won’t you come with me? We can travel the world together & the oceans? 2 - No I can’t go. No I can’t go… with you. No I can’t go. No I can’t go… with you. 1 - I Love You 2 - I Love You 1 - I Love You … Won’t you come with me? Won’t you come with me? We can travel the world together & the mountains? Won’t you come with me? Won’t you come with me? We can travel the world together & the oceans? The mountains? The oceans?

He's not "raping " the guitar. His body is overcome with the emotion as he channels it through his guitar. Its called passion. If you've never had such a connection with an instrument and the music your playing, then no one can describe it to you. Its the most exhilarating feeling.
