There was another big earthquake in Calabria in 1908. I found articles in the Grand Rapids Press and Grand Rapids Herald mentioning my great grandfather’s brother in law being concerned about his siblings. He did lose some family members there. The death records from the earthquake were recorded months later in a separate book.

A similar incident happened to a great uncle in my family, I think it was my grandfather’s brother (?). Crushed at the knees, there’s a picture from the funeral home of the poor boy. Kinda creepy now but more common then, from what I understand.
