Michael J. Fox Gets Standing Ovation & Gives Touching Speech

Michael J. Fox got a standing ovation at the National Board of Review Awards this week. The "Back to the Future" star and director Davis Guggenheim won the Best Documentary Film award for "Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie." When they took the stage, Michael reflected on his journey with Parkinson’s disease. “Parkinson's has been a gift. It's been a gift that keeps on taking, but it's been a gift, because it's given me insight and an audience to talk about what's possible,” he said.

Michael J. Fox is just so amazing and brave dealing with Parkinson's. Luckily he has a wife and children who love him very much. He will always be Alex P. Keaton in my mind. Loved Family Ties and all of his movies. My husband was diagnosed at age 61 with Parkinson's and passed in 2021. This disease is so frustrating and affects people in so many different ways. Love you always, Michael. You are a true hero.

Michael J Fox's mind is still sharp as a tac. I didn't realize he was actually diagnosed that far back in 1991 - that's 33 years ago. And he kept working and kept it under wraps for so long. He's an icon, a legend. And he's done so much to help bring awareness to this unfortunate disease.

I grew up watching his movies also. I loved Alex P Keaton, and I loved Marty McFly. But I will say this, he has means, a loving family, and was given a great career doing what he loved. Understand that there are a lot of people in the world who also are sick and unfortunately don’t have success and a support system. So yes, Michael is a great inspiration, but also has tons of help which in the end, I am sure is what gets him through.

I think about how tragic this is very often. I always looked up to him as a kid and still do obviously. But I remember wondering why i didn’t see him in movies anymore and when I looked it up I was crushed, I literally cried for like a day or two. He had so much more to give (acting wise) but I’m so happy he still does stuff and isn’t letting dumb ass ALS get him down.
