Greg Phillinganes. Such a great yet underrated performer. Had the pleasure of seeing him in Detroit with Stevie Wonder. I remember thinking: “this guy helped MJ make history, but almost no one knows”. Which is what makes the post-WW2 era so fascinating! So much talent everywhere, in so many forms! And here we are 35 years later surviving in a musical desert. The modernization and greediness of America’s music industry dismissed the importance of individual talents coming together to form a masterpiece. Music has become (for the most part) uniform and shallow. Je suis né en France and used to look up to MJ and the US as the Holy Grail. All I can do now is look back and lament on what the world has become. Politicians and dictators spreading hatred with little resistance from mainstream entertainers. Long gone are the days of the reign of Michael Jackson.

Idk about Bad, but I know that Dangerous was originally supposed to be a double LP, as it was supposed to be a 10-year anniversary of sorts for his Thriller album. He wanted to go big, so he used a lot of these Bad era demos and reworked them, but the anniversary double LP album idea was ditched, and he made Dangerous instead.

Here's something to consider. When we discover an outstanding unreleased MJ song, many fans start talking about how it should've replaced another song that made the final cut. That's not necessary. Apparently, the songs he chose were enough to excite audiences around the world. If anything, these songs prove that MJ could've put out albums every year or two years like a lot of his contemporaries. I'm just glad we're hearing these songs at all. The more tracks to add to your MJ collection, the better.

@@BEEyonced Actually Michael’s judgement wasn’t what put Just Good Friends on the album, but Quincy Jones’s. MJ nor Stevie wrote the song and it was pretty much all Quincy Jones that got that song put on the album in first place. He later said it was a mistake.

I agree and disagree respectfully. The unfortunate thing about pop albums then and now is the track choosing process. I makes them choose the tracks based on track topics. All three are great. I agree that this song and Streetwalker would have knocked Bad out of the park. But in the Bad era...I see why they chose Just Good Friends. I dont think I could imagine Michael's 80's career without a Stevie duet.
