By 1979 Michael had the biggest selling album by a black artist, and the Jacksons had sold 90 million records (at the time the second biggest selling act)second only the Beatles. Who could stop them? NO ONE COULD

man, its sad when people ignore Michael's entire impact. Even record sales only incorporate his solo work, not including his solo motown, his history needs an entire retrospective J5 - over 100 million sold Jacksons - 50 million sold MJ solo (motown and epic) almost a billion

This is the song I heard when I was a young teenager that made me ask 'Who is that'? The rest is history 🙂 I was in my cool older cousins house and she had this playing on the record player. I was in love. This would have been way back just days away from the release of Thriller & Michael mania. It was a great time. Your fans miss you so much Michael. RIP

I think the pressures of just being Michael wore him down...which ultimately killed him. Each album, he wanted to be better than the last. But don't worry Michael...you are at peace now...no more competing with yourself. You were, and will always be The Best Entertainer that has ever lived.

Off The Wall Era..The tux and those short pants. There is so much swag dripping from MJ it should be illegal. I want to see this concert released just to see him sing and groove. MJ certainly had this energy and magic that no one has. As Cherly Crow stated, "He changed the molecules in the room" Mannnnnn

Oh my gosh! I remember actually seeing this 20/20 when it orignially aired. I yelled so loud doing this segment that my father threatened that he was going to turn the tv off if I yelled again(I was excited) and woke my sister up! lol Well, I'm glad I did get a chance to meet Marlon in 1987...he was really very nice and down to earth.

I have been waiting to hear from you since MJ passed, it is still hard to believe he is gone. I think most MJ fans, especially the younger ones, don't embrace his pre Thriller history. I think Thriller was when he was REALLY trying to reimagine himself outside his brothers. But like you said everything after is an extension of when he truly came into adult genius level and that was during 79 - 81, my favorite years for him

To clarify, from the very beginning to the Bad Tour Michael sang all his shows live, it wasn't until Dangerous and after in which he didn't and even then he would sing a few songs live. After 30 years of doing it live and dancing he deserved the right to lip sing

Michael looks so hot in his suit! Too bad they don't make music like that anymore. Michael had some great music to dance to. He was AMAZING!!!!! And on stage you could not take your eyes off him, he was breathtaking to watch. MEZMERIZING!! Miss you Mike.

you're right 80scouples and w/the way the new generation responds to MIKE'S past, they don't deserve to know the time when MIKE was at his unequivocal best, I'm just happy I got to see the triumph tour live and he was breakin it down so real, people didn't know what to do but watch.....many people may forget, but during the making of MICHAEL JACKSON'S THRILLER, MIKE featured songs from OFF THE WALL, one of the reasons the tape sold like it did....

I think the Jacksons made equally good music, Triumph is as good as Thriller or Off The Wall. Your right regarding this song, only the little bit was sung during Shake your body on the Victory and Bad tours but we needed this song complete and live, the little bit from the history tour was not enough, I wonder if this was a song he was going to perform on the This is it tour

what's up man....I chose to remain silent, just to give recognition to MIKE and his amazing career, I always tried to be balanced and embrace music from all of his albums, there's no way he should be gone at 50 but it is what it is, but yeah, 1979-1981, you rarely see any footage of MICHAEL during that era, and that was his most spontaneous era, everything the world saw w/THRILLER, he had done during OFF THE WALL, w/the exception of the moonwalk, he scaled down his dancing over time

I hear ya, scorpionJB. Is the media a bunch of amnesiacs? Like Off The Wall never existed? For crying out loud, I wore that album out (that and the Live album). Thriller was great but it was more about the videos. Off The Wall was all about the music. Loved it then, love it now, and will love it forever.

I just have to shake my head at this MJ-Beyonce comparison. She's very talented and popular but there really is NO CONTEST. Today's generation will probably never fully grasp the sheer magnitude of MJ's stardom. You had to have been not just alive but old enough at the time to know how truly magical it was. I was, and I sure am lucky to have experienced it firsthand.

BIGGEST regret of my life was not attending this show. Ugh!!!!!!! Gotta forgive myself, gotta forgive myself... THIS tour was - sadly - the zenith of MJ/The Jackson's live performances. The Victory Tour was a carbon copy of this tour - even the AD LIBS were the same - and MJ's solo tours lacked the magic of his performances with his brothers. This was also the last time he seemed happy, too; afterwards he always seemed to sneer (even when singing happy songs)...
@scorpionJB
@scorpionJB 15 жыл бұрын
and you know what, maybe it's not meant for the world to witness this time, since they take it for granted so much and since they trash his brothers who were very talented in their own right...so it should only be for those who are truly going to embrace it w/out all the pretense..because everything that MIKE presented w/THRILLER, was a reflection of what he already did during OFF THE WALL, and he scaled down his dance moves for each and every album afterwards.
