Watching the Spinners' performances are akin to watching the third and fourth leg of an exciting relay race... Philippe' ALWAYS ran a good race, with strong 1st place finishes.

I listened to the entire album again, about ten years ago, after it was first released in 1981-when I first bought it(in 1981) I said 'it's not that good of an album'; I definitely liked certain cuts more than others at that time, but after all of the years going by and then listening to it again, I then said, 'this was really a nice album, well produced-maybe their best'-not in terms of any one song or any no. of tunes that could've been singles, but in the collective sense, every song on the album had 'something to say', perhaps more so than any album they did before! And I agree with you, "1980Triumph" if I understand you correctly when you say, the reason the album didn't do as well as any of the previous albums is because QJ was not their producer on this one; I think a lot of people had that same conclusion after finding the album didn't sell as well as the previous ones. I will note that it(the album) did get quite a bit of airplay when it was first released, at least in my hometown of Detroit it did; maybe the same was true for most other markets, where the album would've received quite a bit of airplay, like it got in Detroit-maybe in spite of the airplay, it didn't do well, because of, like you said, lack of 'name recognition', w/respect to Quincy's name not being on the lp. Oh well, it's history now but it's nice to see someone remembered this lp! P.S: I think I like this live version better than the album version-they're jamming on this video! 12-13-24.

It seems that the reason given from what I read was that the album wasn't successful because it didn't have Quincy on it, it is suggested that had he produced it then the album would have marketed it better or promoted it more. I can't confirm but that is what I had read years ago. I think we all have revisited albums and had that feeling, for me it is certain songs that I ignored or didn't capture me at first yet became some of my all time favorites. "Can't Let Go" by Earth Wind and Fire comes to mind. I'm glad to know it got airplay, always amazing that an album somehow doesn't stick with audiences for various reasons. I have not been a fan of their work really after this, only one song off the next album/compilation in 82. I really like The Great Awakening and the Gospel album Louis made.

@@1980Triumph Like you said, their albums after "Winners" didn't get the airplay of the previous ones, and I think that may have been due to the lack of direction, or input, w/respect to those albums, compared to the previous lps. And like you said, Quincy's lack of presence as producer on the Winners album may have, or did indeed, contribute to it's lack of success, compared to it's predecessors-and thanks for your reply! 1-2-25.

Mrs. Latania Davis made me realize how much I truly love her. Life can make you realize that walking away from the one that you truly appreciate can also make you realize that it just be a little bit of time again for them to be together with each other again. She was my wife and my best friend eternally and forever!
