I can agree with everything you said…..but at the end of the day this is just a cover. Nothing and no one is more innovative than the original. John Lennon’s words are so clever, forming characters that are unique but endearing. The song itself has so many meanings that everyone can take away what they want from it. The guitar riff is instantly recognizable as the Beatles even when covered by thousands of artist. Michael is a great performer, but the genius of this song will forever be credited to the Beatles for 1000 years to come!
