STORYLINE:
Michael Jackson pleaded not guilty on Friday to a grand jury indictment charging him with child molestation and a conspiracy count involving allegations of child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion.
Jackson stood outside court afterward with his parents and two brothers. He noted that his children were born in Santa Maria and that he loves the community. Jackson made no mention of the charges during a brief news conference after the hearing.
Jackson spokeswoman Adene King said Jackson''s statement was approved by the judge.
Defence attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr., who entered the plea on his client''s behalf, said outside that the case was about the "complete vindication" of Jackson.
The indictment also included four counts of lewd acts involving a minor child, one count involving an attempted lewd act upon a child and four counts of administering an intoxicating agent to assist in commission of a felony. The crimes allegedly occurred between February 1 and March 31, 2003.
The alleged victim was identified as "John Doe" and a witness to some alleged molestation was identified as "James Doe."
