I think this was one of the biggest differences between the artists. MJ was a superstar at heart who put on productions and people looked at him as an idol. Prince focused more on the organic nature of making music rather than putting on a production, and he always wanted his supporters involved - whether that was singing backing vocals that he would orchestrate, having people come dance on stage, or even just having online chat rooms that he would go in to talk with fans and get their input about what bootleg projects they wanted official releases for. MJ put on shows. Prince hosted parties. Not saying one is better than the other, it just depends on your personal preference. But I’ve always found that distinction between them to be very important.

I listened to a lot of Prince’s songs and didn’t like any of them. They actually sound terrible to me. I don’t know how people like them. I don’t like Queen, for example, but I can see why people do. But Prince, I really don’t think he’s good. He’s also not a a good dancer. The whole world know MJ. Almost no one knows Prince. Especially outside of the US.

Michael Jackson and Prince are 2 different types of artist. Michael is in the dancing hall of fame, could tap dance and master most forms of dance. He was the consummate entertainer modeling his career off the great James Brown. MJ could beatbox his tunes to create his music and if you've seen beatbox, it's a genius at work. Go see his beatbox of tabloid junkie. His live performances would mesmerize people.

Michael Jackson was more commercial than Prince but not better. Many people were turned off by Prince because of his risqué material during his early days. My husband doesn’t even like most of Prince’s music but he said it was the best concert he has ever been to.

Both. Michael Jackson and Prince both had great qualities and strengths that enlightened and enriched the lives of his so many people. And as for them, both were great friends and supported each other. Especially Prince who hated when people dissed or said bad things about MJ; which made him quite angry toward them. Check out the interviews that Cat did for the Prince podcast called "Prince had Jokes and Respect for Michael Jackson - Told by Cat", and also the interview that Appolonia did for DJVlad ( especially the segment "Apollonia: Rick James Dissed Prince & Asked Me to Join Mary Jane Girls (Part 8)"). Both explained how Prince and MJ were great friends and that anyone who had claimed they hated each other were lying.

MJ was definitely more of an artist than Drake could ever hope to be. He also wrote songs for other artists, including Diana Ross. While it's true that Prince wrote more of his own songs, his music was simply nowhere near as successful as MJ's was. Prince also has several songs that wee coproduced or cowritten by his band mates. Purple rain was produced by Prince AND the revolution, not just Prince.

When i was young i preferred MJ to Prince to be honest, i think it was because my family didn't like the profanity Prince used in some of his songs but as i got older i much preferred Prince. I saw them both live and though MJ was amazing his shows for me were always the same and became boring to me, Prince always reinvented his songs live and never mimed like MJ did and was always unreal to the point where people couldn't believe that he never dropped a note singing on stage. I'm going with the guy who makes great music, owns a lot of people's music, and owns all his own music. Contrary to the guy who makes all his own works then gets played for them. Fighting over a decade just to get those master tapes back. MJ would stress out his body just to do the Bad Tour. Not even Rockstars of that time had it that hard. So I know Prince isn't fking with MJ on the basis of Live shows. Prince needed an instrument. Mike's entire vessel was the instrument. Can't beat that.

Record sales don't mean anything. As a producer, arranger, composer, performer, as well as a musician who played multiple instruments, singer, and songwriter, Prince was the total package. His music was more innovative and he dared to take chances and experiment musically, which made him more interesting. MJ's music was more safe and though it may have appealed to more people, it wasn't as groundbreaking as Prince's.

For me, it’s Prince. Multi-instrumentalist, wrote his own songs in so many genres. There are videos from people who worked with him, he was a 24/7 music fabric. Insanely good at Piano and one of the greatest on guitar. I think you can’t compare Prince and MJ on musical level, I understand why people compare them,because of the succes in the 80’s and the talent that both had that seems out of this world. I love MJ, he has so many hits and good pop songs. Both had talent we are never gonna see again. Legends 🙏

MJ was the better entertainer, but Prince could do it all. He played 27 instruments! Plus he could sing, dance, write, produce. He wrote many hit songs for other artists. He wrote it all himself, produced and arranged himself, played all the instruments in his songs, and did the same for other artists. Prince is the only artist to have the #1 song, the #1 album, and the #1 movie all out at the same time. The only song I know that MJ wrote for someone else is “Muscles” by Diana Ross. Prince wrote dozens of Top 10 songs for many people. How many of the songs by the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons did MJ write himself? J5: ZERO. Jacksons: maybe a couple. Maybe. How many instruments did MJ play on ANY album? ZERO. I am not taking anything away from Michael. I’m just saying that Prince could do everything.
