I've checked on youtube and found the struck version immediately on second recommended video for smooth criminal which is a lyrics video but it alternates between hit/hit and hit/struck during the whole song. Then I've watched the whole video you presented here and found out there is indeed no mention of struck in this version. But upon checking a third MJ video of his live performance of smooth criminal in Munich 1997. it was again a case of alteration between hit/hit and hit/struck through the song. I would say this is not a ME because examples of MJ singing it can clearly still be found.

It's as simple as this: The version of the song in the music video is different from the version from the physical record, radio, streaming services and digital download. In the music video it's hit/hit in both bridges of the song, the word "struck" is nowhere to be seen there, but on radio, streaming and download versions he says hit/struck. The Mandela Effect here is a case of confusion 'cuz of there being two different versions of the songs. Some people are more familar with the music video that's why the can't recall the world "struck", while some have heard on the radio

Why do you bother with listing all the covers when when all you need to do is go to Michael Jackson's official Vevo page, and look at both versions of Smooth Criminal listed? The single (listed as the shortened version) says struck by at 2:28. The Moonwalker excerpt version (the long one) does not. The both use the same video footage. This is not a Mandela Effect. This is two visually similar videos, and only one was released to home video (The Moonwalker version).

The "Smooth Criminal" Mandela effect is just a confusion. Actually the lyrics is "you've been struck by", but only on the second refrain. In the first refrain is "you've been hit by"

I watched the official video to double-check after seeing your first clip, and he never says struck, at all. Just listened to the audio and he does say struck on the 2nd chorus which is surprising. If you lined up 100 people and asked them to sing the lyric I'd put money on them all saying hit/struck, this is definitely an ME as far as I'm concerned, this is an uber famous song. If you read this at all dude don't sweat it, people will beef just for the sake of it, so they can feel they're clever online or whatever. Move on innit, bigger fish to fry, and you can lead a horse (or sheep) to water but...

i don't think it's an issue if people are simply saying or questioning things but do it politely, anyhow you can follow a general trend to see if this is a legitimate 'shift' - and this seems to fit that, that is often the Offical video will mismatch the other offical aspect - so for example Grease the video of the song that is most famous mismatches the Audio soundtrack - this is definitely a shift, so what you say is important, if the Official video now never says it then you can lock it in. especially if the audio only says it once. it is 100% an 'ME' and it's great that Perpetual motion is bring attention.

The video from Moonwalker doesn't have him saying "struck" but the radio edit has "you've been hit by, you've been struck by" Obviously the vast majority of people have heard the radio edit which is why everyone sings struck... this one needed a little more research before posting bro.

He always sung Hit by/Hit by in the first chorus and Hit by/Struck by in the second chorus. This is a simple case of people not knowing the lyrics and the word "struck" is the only word of the 4 (3 repeated) thats different. So you can chalk this down to people lack of knowledge, quite embarrassing video really

The full length official video has 'double hit by' both times though. The short version/radio edit has struck. Not saying it's an ME, but it makes me wonder why the line is different for each version - main thing being changed while others remain as a sort of residue fits the ME pattern. Either way, I didn't really pay any attention to the lyrics until now, just my two cents.

Partially down to the full length version being part of a movie and "Extended" or mixed differenly. The full length video also contains an extended second verse which isn't present on any of mix or live performance of the song.

Yeah, totally sure Alien Ant Farm didn't study that song endlessly and make the big choice to cover then fuck up the lyric. Also, I witnessed this one change last week. This guy's previous video went up and I saw it immediately. I then checked Smooth Criminal right after that and it remained the same for me: "Hit by, struck by". So I thought this guy was wrong and just fucking around or something. Low and behold, four mornings later I check again and the lyric switched. Even the lyric video posted 8 years ago I witnessed change.
