Pretty sure youtube is slowly degrading older video quality to free up server space hoping we won't notice. I've noticed some of my own videos uploaded 8 plus years ago now only able to be viewed at 480 when I know they were 720 or higher. Yea, i think thats one of the reasons many doubt he will take the record, because even though yes he is running, he'll really have to run that thing down like Michael did no questions asked. He gotta be willing to go out just maybe sub 20 or 20 low and come back, because one he has the legs to stride it. He has to now get the strength to sustain going out like a true sprinter. U agree?? Does anyone else reading this agree??

I really want to see what Usain Bolt's got for a 400m right now all-out! Seriously, he ran 45 seconds at age 15. That was also when he wasn't as strong as he is in modern times. Some people may not want to, but I'd love to see what he can do.

@Bakr3ni Wariner's competition when he ran his PB of 43.45 in 07' was harder than Johnson's when he ran his 43.18 in 99', it was from 92' to 95' where Johnson had harder competition in 400m. I believe thats just there average speed, and I honestly can't see Bolt breaking MJ's WR anytime soon, it might be possible one day in a couple years if he's determined and trains hard for it, we'll see..

The 400 is a hard race though much harder to train for, i've seen people puke out their guts training for it, which is y he switched to the 100. With enough incentive though, which there isnt right now because he's a god at the moment, He can and I beleive he will. May be in london?

@JoeyFudd if the date took place in 01, back when MJ retired, Wariner obviously wouldn't have been the sub 44s 400m sprinter he is now, if it took place in 04, the year Wariner won his first ever gold medal, MJ would've been well past his prime. So it doesn't matter when the race took place, it wouldn't have been competitive anyway.

Why not you all take a look at bolt's 400m 'walk'. He took 45s. Just look at the way he eats so much more track than other runners. I won't be surprised if he breaks Michael Johnson 400m WR. Even MJ knows that his record will go soon as he admitted how astonished he was when he saw bolt's long legs effortlessly eat up all the track. He's not even trying as hard as MJ.
@phastman

@MrIjijijijjiji True, but It wasn't, it's actually his slowest 100m split, it appears to be faster because he's pulling away from everyone but really he's just maintaining much better than everyone else is. MJ's 100m splits here were 11.1, 10.12, 10.44, and 11.52.

@jimmyzzzzzaaaaa Sir: I am aware of the race which you are referring to. (It took place in the summer of 1997). Donovan Bailey did indeed beat Michael Johnson on that occasion. Let us not forget, though, that MJ - being, as he was, a 'long-distance' sprinter - was not ideally suited to the 100 metres dash ... or even the 150m, for that matter! That said, Donovan Bailey was a brillian athlete - one of the all-time greats in his specialist event (the 100 metres).
@TheEctomorph
@TheEctomorph 13 жыл бұрын
@sharktrinity Jeremy Wariner is probably blessed with a higher degree of natural SPEED ENDURANCE than Michael Johnson. (In fact, Mr Johnson has actually admitted this, in his recently published book, entitled "Gold Rush". However, one should not make the mistake of confusing speed endurance with STRENGTH. In my opinion, it is somewhat unlikely that Mr Wariner is superior to Mr Johnson in this quality - strength, I mean.
@TheEctomorph
@TheEctomorph 13 жыл бұрын
@Mattu190 The 400 metres requires a much higher degree of endurance - or, to be precise, speed endurance - than the 100 metres (obviously). But it is surely an exaggeration to say that anyone who can run a fast 400m can run competently at ANY distance. The physiological attributes needed by an athlete who aspires to be a world class marathon runner (for example) are VERY different from those needed by one who aspires to be world class at 400 metres.
@TheEctomorph
@TheEctomorph 13 жыл бұрын
@SuperMatzik Actually, Usain Bolt has a great deal of power. I think that what you mean is that he does not (at the present time) have a great deal of SPEED ENDURANCE. That said, a gentleman who is capable of returning a time of 19.19 (for the 200 metres) into a slight headwind cannot possibly be LACKING in this quality (speed endurance). It remains to be seen whether the 6 foot 5" Jamaican speedster decides to make a serious attempt to become a world class quarter miler. There is no doubt
@TheEctomorph
@TheEctomorph 13 жыл бұрын
@MostMuscularity No, I disagree. He is only 27 years of age ... therefore it is well within the bounds of possibility that he will be able to recapture his vintage form of 2007. It is worth mentioning that Wariner's fellow Texan, Mr Michael Johnson, was only a fortnight shy of his 32nd birthday when he broke the 400 metres world record - in August 1999. I think that Wariner may well be one of the stars of the 2012 Olympic Games in good ole England.
@TheEctomorph
@TheEctomorph 13 жыл бұрын
@juninhopernambucano3 Well, you MAY be correct in your belief that the big Jamaican sprinter is not potentially capable of running the 400 in under 44 seconds. On the other hand, you have to remember that Michael Johnson - a guy who is exceptionally knowledgeble about 400 metres running, and the qualities that it entails - genuinely feels that Bolt has got what it takes to break the world record in that event (which currently stands at 43.18).
@92938091

Come on. MJ is a legend. No doubt. the more i look at his runs, the more convinced i am that he has great stamina but lack speed. Anything below 150m, he'll lose. He lost to bailey then he faked injury. Usain bolt has great speed and his stamina is improving alot. 3 years ago, he ran 45s when his 200m was ard 21s. Now that his 200m is close to 19s, hitting 43s should not be a problem with his long legs.
@92938091
@92938091 15 жыл бұрын
Let's be frank about this. MJ just said that usain could go below 19sec. I doubt usain's record would fall in the next 10 years coz he's running beyond human limits. US scientist said no man could go below 9.6s in the 100m abd usain did. MJ's record looks easier to break in the next 10years than usain's. If anyone is to beat usain, he must be as tall as yao ming and run at bolt's frequency which is super unlikely. I guess usain's records could stand for a century.
@MrJeckel
@MrJeckel 15 жыл бұрын
... Bolt>MJ. Period. bolt isn't even in his prime at 24-27 yet and he is blowing the doors off of all the world records he is racing in. there isn't even a question bolt is faster. if MJ ran vs bolt he would LOSE. and MJ fully said that the other day that he is glad he is not in the same race as bolt. seriously i bet bolt can break MJ's 400 record also. no competition here. Bolt is better than MJ no contest.
@92938091
@92938091 15 жыл бұрын
No doubt it's one of the most impressive races. I used to be a michael johnson fan but not warinier coz he's no where near the greatest. However, for now, we have to accept that bolt is the fastest, not just one of the fastest. Americans have to accept the fact that they can't beat bolt as he's 'godlike'. Unless they Americans assassinates or paralyse him, bolt will continue to dominate the track and the gay could only win 'boltless' races lol.
@92938091

Come on! Usain is improving. He may have pushed for 19.3 but he was just striding comfortably against a head wind and in the rain in lausanne to a 19.59. If he go all out now, i believe he can do a 9.65 and a 19.25 for 100m and 200m. As for 400m, he just don't wanna run it and MJ is praying that he doesn't. If he does train for it, beating MJ record shouldn't b a prob. He's better than everyone thinks. He started running 200m and now he's conquered 100m, why not 400m?

Wariner barely broke MJs 200m record and considering 400m is MJs prime and takes mental toughness like no other event... Wariner will never beat MJs 400m WR ever. I think MJs 400m WR is the single greatest athletics performance in all time sports history - it was magical... look how he cleans up the entire field in the last 150m. 1:17-1:26... MJ is the best sprinter of all time and I don't care what Usain does in the 100/200m he is taking superior sports supplements than MJ too.

Usain Bolt always screws up,but he makes it up with his natural speed. Just see how he breeze past his opponents even when he lags at 20m. His 200m winning gap is as much as johnson's 400m winning gap. That's quite incredible to build up such a lead in such a short distance. Warinier just won with a 45 plus sec. Just look at usain's 45sec lap, he was jogging or should i say 'brisk walking' for the last 100m. The video is on youtube. Go take a look guys!

But remember johnson stumbled at the start in his 19.32 race. Bolt ran his first hundred in 9.96 for his world record then finished to a 19.30 johnson done his first hundred in 10.12 i think it was then finished of in 19.32 bolt defintely has the speed for 100 and 200 but you can see johnson is winning in the endurance part so 400 will be hard to beat but he's 22 and he can only go up.

No prob. Michael was a great and anyone is foolish to forget him....especially since he sets the bar. It will be interesting. I don't think Wariner is going to break any records this year, although he does look strong. Of course, so does Merritt. Bolt's race will be interesting, too. Especially if he really goes for it and doesn't shut it off 20m before the line like he has been.

The 400m record will be broken someday but not in 2008. The 200m record is all but gone, if Usain Bolt ever runs through the finish line he can break it anytime he wants. I saw him run 19.6 and he did not even run the last 30m hard. So hopefully in the 200m finals he runs the whole race and if he does I have no doubt 19.32 is gone and this is coming from a person that Saw Michael Johnson do it and swore it would never be touched.

this is incredible, but i think someone will run a 42.20 or something very close to that. i think if you had great athletic ability naturally and then the proper training, but the x factor if you did not know your limits or any limits say what a great 400 meter time was so you were made not to set a limit or a goal just be as fast as possible, i think these guys are blocked by a mental factor saying hey thats impossible

First of all Michael was never on roids, I am the mentor of two Baylor sprint National Champs Couts and Hauser and he's the best b/c he was THE MOST focused. 2nd, when people speak of their 200m difference, don't forget that Jeremy came in after it was just the tempo training vs. speed training 3 years then tempo... to me (and being on the training since 17) that's the best explanation as to why MJ was quicker but JW is stronger... Being that Mike was 21.3 and Jeremy was some 20.5 in HS

Are you really going to judge it because of video quality, if so then that's pretty stupid. Wariner keeps getting better and better and i don't think he's even 25 years old yet. He won the Gold in Athens when he was 20. He's running consistent times in the 400m in the mid 43's. It's only a matter of time until he breaks Johnson's record. It will be tough though since Wariner isn't on roids, Johnson most likely was on HGH or roids.

Hey Alex cheese out ;) I'm not a racist, I'm actually white. But you know, it's morphologically explained that black men run faster than we do. It might be Johnson set the record at age of 31, but I really don't think Wariner has what it takes to beat the record. Of course, I just hope he will, which would be a great page in history of sports i.e the first White man to run over a black on 400m. Let's see if that's going to happen, I don't think so. as I said, easy, eeaasyy..

i agree johnson is way ahead of anybody in competition. not to take anything from wariner, MJ is just in a class of his own for now until anyone can come within 2 or 3 tenths of his record and i don't see that even happening for a while. as for this white running back crap and being discriminated against is a bunch of crap. these professional and collegiate coaches want to win. it's a business of winning. so if there was a white RB better on the team he would play hands down

slavery occurred only about 300 years ago, nowhere near long enough for an entire race to evolve. African Americans are superior athlete because they have competed in tribal sports for hundreds, possiblies thousands of years. Also, consider that African Americans are originally from Africa, which I would say is a much more difficult environment to survive in than Europe. Over time, African Americans have developed longer, more powerful muscles to help adapt to these adverse conditions.

MJ had better competition than JW... much better... I'm not even sure JW would'be been 2nd behind MJ in his WR race the resolution is pretty bad... was his final top speed 33.34 km/h? JW's was 32.78... but I have to say that MJ's last 100 sprint was magnificent... wouldn't be suprised to see Bolt going after the last great Michael Johnson's record, this one, very soon

Just because one can run the fastest 100 and 200 doesn't mean its a automatic win for the 400meters. Its almost a different skill and it breaks into different muscles. If Bolt was able to take MJ's WR from him on the 400meter, I would be shocked. Any of these great runners are amazing though and I give them total respect.

If he can smash WRs without training, that's even more amzazing. If he runs a 400m now, i'm sure he can reach times like this. Sub 43 shouldn't be a prob.

Usain bolt can definitely do a sub 43s. In beijing, he was struggling to get 19.3s but he has improved so much that he was still going strong after clocking 19.19s for 200m. He looks like he can go strong for another 200m. Let say he's tired and runs super slow (22s), his 400m timing would be 41.19s which is way below 43s.

Who cares about the past. The era of usain bolt has arrived. This tall man is gg to beat all the shorties out there. What's 43 seconds man? With his long strides and fast frequency, no doubt, if usain were to run a 400m now, we can expect a sub 43 seconds. Maybe he could even thrash the US 4 by 100 team all by himself lol=D

And no one is gg to mention jeremy warinier coz he's not even worth to be mentioned. NO OFFENCE OR DISCRIMINATION but he's white and i have not seen many or any white man out there go close or break the WR. MJ, gay, greene, asafa, bailey, ownes, carl lewis... does any of them look like a white to any of you?

it took usain bolt one year to do what michael johnson couldn't do his whole career... become undoubtedly the fastest man alive. 5 world records, breaking his own records by a tenth of a percent... bolt>mj no comparison. and btw, bolt was tested before and after both 100 metre and 200 metre finals and was clean.

And he should be better in 400m since his starting sucks due to his tall frame. He usually makes up and builds up his lead after 30m and his lead opens up as the distance increases. In 100m, he usually wins by 5-10m. For 200m, he wins by 20-30m. For 400m, 50-60m?? No one can really go near him when it comes to any distance below a lap man.

Of course i know 200m is different from 400m idiots! But just look at his strides for his recent 200m race in the rain, he effortlessly clocked 19.5s, thrashing merrit (olympic champ with 43.75) and crawfords who were running like dogs. At that effortless pace, who knows man? He can literally single-handedly take on the US 4 by 100 team lol.

eh 400m takes time to prepare for its the ultimate race speed and endurance like what bolt did I easily transitioned my 200m run style to run the 100m on short notice. but bolt has the potential maybe not in 2012 though. johnson will keep that record sadly for a long long time thats just straight immortality on the track. 43.19 hmmm.... almost 10 sec splits.

Why does this always have to be about Race, Michael Johnson is the best of all time to me. And J. Weiner is just now starting out. Michael Johnson didn't break the World Record until he was 33 years old, So Weiner still has a chance to beat his Gold Medal count and World Record. He's a fantastic runner no matter what color he is, I just loved how humble M. Johnson was.

YOU CAN'T BASE SPEED ON ETHNICITY! no matter how scientific you get. you'll be basing all arguments from what if's... Mike johnson IS the world record holder as a black man. Jeremy Wariner MAY get the world record. Let's look at some up and coming stars: Bryshon Nellum splitting a 45.2 as a high schooler? what if he breaks the world record... nno way of telling

One more thing. I was a white sprinter and college halfback, but 30 years ago. Then, there was definitely prejudice that kept black guys in certain positions and out of others. Fortunately for me, my position was considered fair game for every type of guy, so no one had to feel they took the position unfairly. But I do recall that we have 8 white QB's!

I find the racial discussions saddening and sometimes frustrating, but I should add something no one ever says. Asians are discriminated against in US sports probably more than anyone else. We now have a WR HH guy from Shanghai, lots of good track men and women, including distance women, and great football players, too, but everyone seems to ignore them.

@phastman99 That may not sound particularly impressive ... but I think you will find that the big Jamaican was still only a kid of 16 or 17 when he ran the 400m in 45.28 secs. Moreover, his training regime - in those days - was that of a 200 metres specialist.
