The footage starting at 1:59 is when he was playing baseball. He would go to a gym in Chicago and play pickup games. There’s a video on KZbin about it. The people that were there talk about how cool he was because everyone was treating him like a regular gym member. Jordan showing up to a local gym to play pickup games has to be the coolest thing ever.

Imagine the most athletic and the most fundamentally , technically sound player in one- then add the most competitive spirit. Lebrons great - but anyone that knows basketball knows his footwork and technique are nowhere near Jordan, Kobe and bird , etc .

They are different kinds of players. No point in comparing them. They’ve both the best ever at their position. LeBron doesn’t have Jordan’s offensive skills, just like Jordan wouldn’t know how to run a team like LeBron. They just see the game differently, but many people seem to ignore this basic fact.

These cheap camera pick-up games show just how effortless his explosiveness was. It's like seeing a Ferrari or a Lamborghini in a parking lot full of SUVs and Trucks.
@dameianjones66418 күн бұрын
Great Comment but these weren’t cheap cameras. You’re just looking back & watching the best technology available 40 years ago. I wish that those analog equipment could be merged with current technology so the visuals could match his game. It was true bliss watching this man. He even made foul shots sexy. He didn’t stay around for 20+ just go say he broke records. He just was the best of his time and no one else came close…..it’s like he was #1 and #2 was actually #6. That much better than everyone and he dominated every player & team so there was no debate. He was the better player, With the better shoes, who had the better commercials, had more appeal, gave much better interviews and was the best ride in DisneyWorld. His reach was so far that the league has still not recovered…. Nike hadn’t either. The nostalgic connections of the love affair that fans worldwide have with Micheal Jordan keeps MJ current & his shoes keep Nike dominant.

@antav937116 күн бұрын
Dr J did, ....props to Connie Hawkins and Elgin Baylor.
@d.michael37216 күн бұрын
@@antav9371I’ve said many times, without Dr. J there would’ve never been MJ. Nobody got the hang time like MJ though. The scoop shots, back to the basket and twisting in the air. Back to Dr. J, he is top 5 all time!
@antav937116 күн бұрын
@@d.michael372 Cool, but I'd have to disagree. Saw the whole career's of both (maybe you did too). Haven't seen a better more graceful open court player than Julius Erving. Scoop shots and finger rolls galore. Floating on air, gotta give that to The Doctor! Still has some of the best plays in the NBA....the off the dribble, one handed, cuff dunk with Cooper flying by and the floating out of bounds, reverse lay-up against the Lakers. And thats an older Doc. What young Doc did routinely in the ABA (and early NBA) was off the charts. MJ surpassed him in some areas but not open court, floating to the basket in traffic, imo.
@d.michael37216 күн бұрын
@@antav9371 the thing that’s amazing about Jordan he had that same air control shooting jump shots, it just wasn’t his dunking or attacking the hoop. If that shot against Craig ehlo doesn’t exemplify hang time then nothing does.
@antav937116 күн бұрын
@@d.michael372 MJ was great no doubt, just wasnt the first to do those things. Elgin Baylor, Connie Hawkins, Gus Johnson, Julius Erving, David Thompson to name a few (not just on layups/dunks). The same marketing, tv/video and internet exposure didnt exist for those guys. Jordan is standing on those guys shoulders, he will (has) even said that.
