It's absolutely nuts that anyone compares Kobe or Lebron to him. Yes, Lebron and Kobe are GREAT players, and are definitely the best of the last decade, and pretty high on the all time list (certainly top 15, both of them). But to compare them to Jordan is just embarrassing. He's the greatest of all time for a reason - and no one has even come close yet. Just because Lebron is the best RIGHT NOW, people have a natural desire to compare him to Jordan - it has nothing to do with whether or not he's actually as good as Jordan. People get overly excited in the present, and forget just how great Jordan was. There's simply no way they'd compare Lebron or Kobe to him if they actually remembered how transcendent he was as a player. Time passes, and people forget. It's sad, really.

baria87 Shaq was dominant from 2005 to 2015? I think not. Shaq was the most dominant from 1999 - 2005 though, I'll give you that. Kobe was just more recent is why I used him as an example. Lebron has certainly been far more dominant over the past decade than anyone else. Shaq was the most dominant before Kobe and Lebron were. Dominant is a perfect word for Shaq during his prime though, because he was just totally unstoppable.

This was my favorite version of Jordan. He wasn't as athletic as he had been years earlier, but he was still the most athletic guy on the floor. And he had the wisdom to pick his spots. His jumpshot at this point had peaked as well. Everything just seemed effortless.

Jordan could always shoot.. The difference was back in the 80's and early 90's he just did other stuff along with it.. His game was actually more balanced then between driving to the basket and shooting. . Later on he just went to shooting more because teams were fouling the shit out of him going to the basket but he could always shoot. .

Yep, you cant average 30 ppg for your career without a jump shot, unless you're an oversized center like Wilt playing in a league with undersized centers. MJ just never shot threes. Threes were not a point of emphasis then, as it is now. The only teams that shot threes then were the Run TMC Warriors, the Suns and the Denver Nuggets. (None of which were contenders, until the Suns acquired Barkley in a trade. Post play was a premium then.) But yeah, MJ had a retarded jump shot.

Disagree. He didn’t look like he had a smooth jumper in the 80s. His jumper in the 80s looked like a floater where he’s pushing the ball & hanging in the air as he’s shooting the ball. Also it looked like he relied more on those acrobatic jumpers in the baseline & middle where he shot those floater type jumpers off the glass. A lot of his jumpers look like the Craig Echlo shot. In the 90s MJ jumper looked more polished & consistent where he can rely on that jumper

@@secoTheSonicFan It didn’t look like a traditional jumper in the 80s, the jumper looked very offbalence, he was able to make those high difficult shots but it didn’t look very traditional. Later on in his career, the jumper looked more traditional even with the fadaways & turnarounds. In the 80s MJ’s most of the time looked like a hangtime offbalence floater & a lot of the jumpshots were like bank shots off the glass. I might be wrong but that’s what it looked like from the highlights

Actually at 39, going into the all star break and before he got injured on his knees (which eventually ended his season few games later), he was 1 of only 2 players in the entire league to average more than 25/5/5. He carried the wizards to the 5th or 4th place in the eastern conference (the team was dead last the previous season), at age 39 ! GOAT.

@@TheLionaaa Yes, 100%. It's an important detail that gets lost in a lot of the conversation about Jordan's run on the Wizards. Going into the break in the 01-02 season, the guy had 40+ games under his belt and was actually doing 25 / 6 / 5 (you took 1 rebound away from him in your comment). At 39. That's insane. The Wizards were 26-20 and in the midst of a 5 game winning streak. That knee injury that he had (which he'd been trying to manage since he started his second comeback) really got out of control by the end of February 2002 and he really wasn't the same player after that, though he managed to somewhat recover in time for the 02-03 season. You have to think that if Jordan had stayed healthy into 02, the Wizards would have made a decent playoff run. Jordan's level of talent, basketball IQ, and sheer physical giftedness was just crazy. (His stats during that first half of the 01-02 season also lend further support to the argument that if Reinsdorf-Krause hadn't disassembled the Bulls they would have had a couple more championship runs in them.)

Well said. People forget how tough the Knicks were back in the 90's and before that there were the Pistons. Given that there were no rules against hand checking back in the day, its phenomenal what Jordan achieved in his early years. Those defence's would've ripped modern teams to shreds.

Forget offense, how about the level of defense? 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season. MJ is the only player in history to do it twice. 17 blocks from doing it 3 times. Difference in his game that people dont it appreciate is how efficient he is - he rarely needs more than two dribbles, or 3 seconds to score, meaning the team s spacijng , ball Movement timing is always on point. As well it insures the flow of the offence is always fluid.Great players like Kyrie Harden they all need a lot more time and a lot more dribbles to get their shot off to create they even need a screen Jordan was able to just stab raise up cross over razor drop dribble pull up. He’s depicted often is this elegant super athletic guy but his fundamentals were what made him the greatest

Ok I do remember this particular game it didn't end till around 12:30 central time and it was a blast! Man the stroke on M.J's jumper was finely precision where he was making that net not just swish but actually SNAP!! especially that running falling away baseline jumper in crunch time over the giant Elden Campbell which if you look he really did contend that shot as good as possible, good defense even better fall away jump shot that seem like he continue to elevate as he continued to fall away from the baseline almost like he shot it from behind the backboard that was a piece of work or you can say a masterful fall away jump shot as good as they get or can get; his stroke was off the charts!!

I grew up a huge Bulls and Michael Jordan fan and had all of his posters. He is probably the greatest player of all time, but it's apparent that he did get all of the calls. You really notice it now when looking back and watching the videos. If a player touches him (or sometimes gets too close) while he was driving, he was getting two free throws. As lightning quick as he was, it made him un-guard-able. That's not to say that other stars didn't get similar treatment, but I do watch his highlights and do understand what Magic Johnson said during the dream team photo shoot about getting too close to Michael and it's a foul.

First off major props of this vintage & nostalgic footage, 2nd that was officially the biggest Jordan blooper of all time @ the 7:09 & 10 mark. clearly Jordan was "in the groove" and clearly overzealous to lose the ball twice like that.The anouncer "hit the nail right on the head" when he said that Jordan was about to do a side double pump reverse dunk. Nevertheless his intention to steal the show with a "razzle dazzle" did not fall short of it's buzz with that crowd reaction. Yes he was humbled

1993 was his peak. Most unstoppable player of all time. Only the Pistons could slow down Jordan in his prime and he still was averaging over 30 ppg and shooting above 45% for the series against them. Jordan in the second three peat was still Jordan but not as good.

rayleigh8 Yes thats correct but in terms of one year I would say 93 because of the fact that It was known that MJ was losing interest in the game and not putting as much work in and was still dominating the league in the regular season. In the playoffs he got injured in the first round and spranied his ankle, still dropped 39 after coming back from the locker room limping around to close out the Hawks and in the end of the second round he hurt his shooting wrist which translated into shooting 35% for the first three game against the knicks. Game 4 he dropped 54 and the next he had a triple double. The only blemish in that whole season was shooting 40% against the Knicks when he was banged up and still averaged 32-7-6-2-1. When he finally got a little more healthy he put up the best finals performance of all time BY FAR. He had many great seasons but people forget how banged up MJ was in the 93 playoffs and MJ even admitted that he was not driven and didn't work nearly as hard in the season and he still dominated the competition in the regular season and capped It off with crazy postseason numbers despite being plagued by injuries. 35-7-6-2-1 on 48% shooting

Also the way he finished the season was just amazing. When he finnally got healthier and focused he destroyed the competition. In the 90's players were more athletics than today...point guard above 6'7 like penny,brian shaw,steve smith,magic,nate McMillan etc. The biggest noticeable difference is that in jordan's era,virtually every team had multiples 7 footer center in their roster...it started to disappear in the early 2000's and today they completely disappeared. Plus,the game was more physical and you wouldn't see guys taking a rest in back to back games or at the end of the season. And the game was also faster.

You could argue that this was Jordan at his best. He was still a high flyer, but he had that back to the basket, and fadeaway jumper here that he utilised even moreso later on in the 2nd threepeat.

People used to say that. What you fail to realize is that Jordan was quicker and jumped usually MUCH higher than most people and combine that with his IQ (pump fakes, footwork, post game, etc) he created a lot of space for himself that led to easy shots. That's more of a compliment to him than an insult. This might be over your head. Tough shots usually mean forcing the situation. Jordan was efficient.

That's a pretty big hypothetical considering that Jordan's career fg% is much higher than Kobe's. Even when Kobe only avg 2 3's a game his highest efficiency was under 47% and that's playing alongside one of the most dominant big men of all time in his prime to take away the defensive attention on him.

@vcdna1 you have to think about it like this...in the NFL, lineman back in the day were 300lb slobs (most, not all) and running backs relied on there skill and quickness. In today's football lineman are 325lbs and they can run 5 sec 40, which is crazy, and running backs are now 230lb plus and solid. The game has evolved...and so has the NBA, they are bigger faster quicker than ever. you can't tell me an athletic freak like Vince Carter or Dwight Howard wouldnt of dominated the 70's or 80's.
