Jerry West is arguably the best evaluator of talent as a GM the NBA has seen. He built the 80s Showtime Lakers, the Shaq-Kobe Lakers, the Pau Gasol Grizzlies, helped build the Splash Bros Warriors, and today’s Clippers. He played with Wilt and Baylor, played against Russell’s Celtics, and has been evaluating players since the late 70s, it speaks volumes for him to place Jordan in another category from the other greats.

Thank you Mr. West. There's a difference in jumping high, jumping quick, jumping off either foot, gathering etc. MJ could jump any way however whenever as quickly and as high. He often didn't need to gather his steps to time his jump, he didn't need to take an extra dribble after a quick move, he didn't need to switch sides or hands, he just jumped. Which is why he made the game look so easy and some of his moves simple to the untrained eye. A casual will overlook his game and dismiss it as "oh, well... he didn't have handles, only 2 dribbles", "or he wasn't contested in that jumper". It takes a different level of skill to score when the defense is trained to stop you with only 2 (or less) dribbles while there are traps, zones, double and triple teams focused on you. It takes great skill and athleticism to leave someone that hasn't slept the night before guarding you, defenders that have tons of tape on you and their sole mission is to stop you flat footed. That shit aint easy to do. West is perhaps the GOAT scout, easily the most respected scout of all time with tons of experience. When he speaks everyone should take notes and listen.

It was god given talent like you may think…his will to train AS HARD AS HE POSSIBLY COULD is what it was. MJ was an extremely determined human.

He has confirmed what we all knew already, Jordan is the greatest of all time. Jordan has been widely regarded as the GOAT ever since he retired by the vast majority of players, commentators, and spectators. So Lebron calls himself the GOAT, for him to actually be greater than Jordan, (I repeat, Jordan has been regarded as the GOAT for a long time now), he needs to have accomplished more career achievements, surpassed Jordan in skill level, and needs to have made a more notable stamp on basketball than Jordan. Jordan has more Championships, more MVP's, more finals MVP's, more scoring titles, and a defensive player of the year so clearly he hasnt surpassed Jordan. To watch both players, and compare pure highlights Jordan is light years ahead also. Jordans pure weight of unbelievably skillful plays dwarfs Lebrons. Lebron has some amazing dunks and impressive buzzer beaters yet does not come close to Jordans artistic, graceful, impossible plays of which there are hundreds. Jordan is simply beautiful to watch in everything he does. The perfect jump shot, the graceful and effortless athletic plays, the ability to hang in the air like no other in history. Lebron is big and strong, but certainly not beautiful to watch, not effortlessly skillful and mesmerising like Jordan.

Jerry west may be the 2nd biggest contributor to basketball after James Naismith hinself. He was a top legendary player, a pretty good coach and a great GM.

To me, if you’re supposed to be in the GOAT debate and your own teammates pick MJ above you, that speak volumes. Consider that Jerry West who played with Wilt, and Magic who played with Kareem, both pick MJ above their teammates for GOAT.

Michae Jordan- One player was both the most athletic and the most fundamental ever, the best offensive player and the best defender ever, the best trash talker and the most humble ever, the most vicious dunker and the most graceful layup maker, the best dunker and the best mid-range shooter ever, not the tallest and not the shortest, and I could keep going, but you get the point already.

Watched some Jerry West highlights recently, Jerry Wess was cold. Could attack the basket well, great passer, and had a mean pull-up jumper. He may be the originator of the pull-up jumpshot

I met Jerry West, when I was playing college basketball. We had a game in Los Angeles and I was able to shake his hand and get a signature from him. This was way back in 1991 !!! Our team was on a slight vacation, before playing a game, and we were all at the Rose Bowl or something like that. It was in the area in Hollywood, where they have all these flowers flown in from Brazil and they decorate these oversized vehicles and cover them with flowers. It was very interesting....

I'm from Slovenia and recently had a conversation with a guy who said Luka could end up as the greatest of all times. I simply replied with no way. And there is a simple reason why. You have to play both ends of the floor. Luka went from bad to average defender but will never be able to be elite where he's winning defensive player of the year awards. Micahel was such a freak of nature, such a competitive guy that he grinded even on defense to the point where he was the best player even on that side of the court.

It’s true. The man had no weakness on the court. His game was flawless
