Vecsey on how difficult it would be for MJ to make a comeback with the competition in this league would be very hard. He did and he came back and won 3 more championships. Which proves what an absolute beast he was.

As a guy who was born in the mid 90s never watched jordan live, its amazing how nobody who came after him gives ppl the same aura that MJ did. Fans even media were all in awe, he was the complete package that was never seen at the time. Everyone that comes after just gets compared to him, like kobe and lebron. But they don't get that same universal love, they got ppl that love them and ppl that hate them. With jordan it feels like that whole era no matter what team you support, they all protect jordan as their guy. It's interesting.

@5:46 "We've got to believe what he says on face value until we learn anything differently." That was from Peter Vescey, who was a much nastier version of Skip Bayless. Would today's players get that much grace from a tough columnist? Even Jordan admits he couldn't have handled the social media age. Today's athletes are tough in their own way.

Takes me back. This could be called "Costas Owns Vecsey."

6:52 Costas calls it right away. Was a sabbatical and the return was spring of the next season

In a sense... because that's how it all played out ultimately. However even Michael didn't know if he was ever going to come back...

This shows you just how big Jordan was in his prime

4:43 what Bob Green says, I never really thought about. It seemed like everyday he’s gonna be asked about his Dad, I can only imagine how tough that would be to be constantly reminded. You already have to deal with it internally but with 30 reporters asking about it daily I can understand.

Jordan was the only player in history that came out of retirement to prove he's not washed and won multiple champions.

Michael Jordan would not have been fine just playing the games. He wanted to play fewer games or fewer minutes. As he told this same Peter Vecsey later, about why he left (when still in his first retirement): "I would have stayed if Phil came up with something where I wouldn't have had to play a large portion of the regular season, like Bill Cartwright*. But let's face it. If I was allowed to sit out until a month before the playoffs, the media would have been all over me."

I was born in 91 so I was young in real time. But in summer of 1995 before the 72-10 season did people expect Bulls to get back on top ? Was there anyone who thought Jordan would just have some playoff exits and retire again ?

@@yeelahowah7476 interesting. I guess Michaels legend was growing real time in that comeback season.

After the Magic beat the Bulls in the 1995 playoffs, I did wonder if Jordan was on the decline. But then I'd heard he was working out like crazy that summer and playing pickup games in LA with a bunch of NBA superstars. So mentally everyone suspected he was back and hungrier than ever. And then Gregg Popovich foolishly handed Rodman over to the Bulls for Will Perdue which solved their lack of a power forward(arguably the biggest reason they lost in 1995 aside from a bit of rust in Jordan's game). So they were certainly the favorite heading into 1995-96.
