People doubted Jordan's scoring + winning, because that hadn't been done before. Nobody doubted his skill level. What you young fools forget, that when MJ retired after 3(!!!) titles, he was called the greatest of all time. CNN dropped programming to cut to his retirement speech. Those last 3 titles meant nothing to his legacy, the 1st 3-peat guy was the most complete player of all time. 11 assists per game vs Magic, threes vs Clyde, and scoring 40+ppg vs the high-scoring Suns. G.O.A.T.

Hubie is right on about a VERY important point. West, Baylor were really great, but often missed chunks of seasons. Ditto for Shaq, who seemed to miss about 20 games a year.

I honestly think, there won't be another Michael. Obviously, he had amazing talent. But it's more his phsyics that allowed him to stay healthy most of the time, plus his mentality.

Completely agree some people were calling him the greatest before he won his first three-peat (Magic, Jerry West etc.) I loved what Bob Costas said after he won his 6th something like "he no longer needs to prove his point that he's the greatest of all time, he simply adds to it."

RECOMMENDATION: Pat Riley with Michael Jordan. That was a really nice interview right before he won his first title. Amazing to see him speaking as just another guy prior to being recognized as the greatest. At that time nobody thought he could win 6 titles and 5 MVPs. It really makes you think. You never know when greatness is gonna happen. LeBron, Durant, Rose, Rondo, etc. one of these guys might takeover the league and win 6 titles. People doubted MJ before he did it...

I love how these players always all humblebrag their asses off with MJ stories. It's always something like: "so this one night I dunk 8 times on Jordan and I blocked his shot 3 times in the first quarter, scored 35 and kept him to 12 pts the whole game. But the next night ! Oh boyyy !! He came into town and gave me EIGHTY and a quadruple double maaan !"

Well, Wilt/Kareem/Rick Barry were still guys who won scoring titles and NBA championships. Not in the same year for Wilt and Rick Barry, but Kareem won both in that 1971 championship season with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Kareem was a scorer who won rings. Hell, he's the all-time leading scorer, and he's won a ton of championships from college through two NBA teams. Wilt was another scorer who won a couple of rings. Larry Bird was definitely a scorer as well, even if he did plenty else too.

You must take into context no one his size ever controlled, had the effect on the game as he (MJ) did. Didn't beat people up like Barkley, only Baylor is close to him at his size on the overall effect he had in all areas of the game.

@BettaWithToast "Kobe's not a high field goal percentage guy, it's just not his play style" So U know what that means right? "Kobe hit huge shots in finals games like the first one against the Pacers when Shaq fouled out and Kobe carried the team" U mean the series where even the Pacers Austin Croshere outscored him in total pts, despite taking 46 LESS shots than him?
@75samuel75
@75samuel75 12 жыл бұрын
Please give me those "huge moments". He's had less incredible playoff performances than Barkley and AI, and those guys have zero titles. I remember AI torturing the Lakers with no help, putting up 50's in big games. Same with Charles: going 40/20 and being dominant in the Finals. What do I remember from Kobe? One game vs Indiana when he was a "suprise". Kobe is no sack of potatoes but he's got no business being in the top 5. Lebron might one day, that guy puts up stats that you'll never see.

@BettaWithToast "Kobe has huge moments in the finals" ?? Kobe vs his team in career finals FG% Kobe: 333-808 (41%) < his teammates: 1041-2161 (48%) FACT #1: he's shot 42% or LOWER in 5 finals FACT #2: he's TWICE set the record for the MOST MISSED FGs in history in a Finals series He's NEVER scored 50 pts in a finals and has ONLY scored 40 pts 1x (vs ORL in '09). He's 44-113 (38%) in career Game 7's and 38-108 (35%) in 5 TITLE CLINCHING games. So where are these "huge moments" U speak of?

Kobe's not a high field goal percentage guy, it's just not his play style. Kobe hit huge shots in finals games like the first one against the Pacers when Shaq fouled out and Kobe carried the team. Kobe against the Magic put up numbers that no other player has ever put up other than Jerry West. He did a great job slowing down AI against the 6ers and actually shot a good percentage in that series. Kobe's one of the greatest. He doesn't have to be Jordan, to discredit his greatness is a joke.
@BettaWithToast
@BettaWithToast 12 жыл бұрын
Unfair to compare a teenage Kobe to the greatest player that's ever lived. Kobe has huge moments in the finals I don't know what you are talking about there. Just because he shot a bad percentage in game 7 against the Celtics doesn't mean he doesn't play well. Kobe and Jordan's points per shot is nearly identical, because Kobe is a better 3 point shooter and slightly better freethrow shooter. Kobe is clearly top 5 ever, Jordan fans talk about him like he's a sack of potatoes.

@BettaWithToast cont. "Kobe against the Magic put up numbers that [no other] player has [ever] put up other than Jerry West" What?!! LOL!! MJ's career Finals avg is BETTER than his '09 finals LOL!! Kobe avg'd 32/7/5 on 43.2 FG% vs ORL in the '09 Finals. Do U know HOW MANY career Finals (let alone playoff runs) that MJ has that's SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER than that?!!
