Mick Kinane, Sea the stars, folklore. In racing terms will be forever remembered in sporting history. I have watched this sport for over 40 years and Sea the stars was the greatest flat horse i have ever seen, his stride alone unmatched, no mind say his speed off an even or four beat gallop.

As an Australian, I’ll forever fondly remember Michael Kinane as the first winner of Australia’s greatest race, the Melbourne Cup, brilliantly riding Vintage Crop to victory in 1993. To segway from Kinane briefly, Seperately and amazingly, the horse’s trainer, Dermot Weld, went on to train a 2nd Cup winner in 2002 with Media Puzzle.

Living in England it stands out a mile the ethos the manner..respect..and knowledge the Irish people in racing have .. they all seem to gentlemen they are humble and respectful ..O’brien also case in point .. when he talks you have to listen ..thankful to his staff at every opportunity. It’s brilliant to see every time

This is a gem of a video. To listen to Mick talk about how the horses won the Derby is great and especially with - my favourite - Sea The Stars. For me, StS would never have been beaten because he was just too good. I think they were too cautious with him - they should've take him to the Breeder's Cup - but I'm no expert and the success they had with him shows they handled him well. Probably better to get the 6 group ones that they got instead of get beat on one of them and win the Breeder's Cup.
