This song continues to come across my feed. I made have listened to it a hundred times… why not one more time. To me it makes sense to say: what’s forever for. Keep your vows, stop and think before you rush to find another when you have the one you chose to begin with. The trouble with relationships is God not being first. ❤

I was 55 years old before I finally found out what true love is really about. True love, when you just hear your husbands voice and cry saying "that's my husband... " when you can't sleep if your husband is not holding you in bed. If you argued, and you walk around the rest of the day like a zombie. When you squeeze him so tight it lifts him up off the floor. It's been 7 years now but my love will NEVER DIE OR FADE! That's what true love is to me. Best wishes to all.

I was fortunate. I met my husband when I was twenty-two. We were married for 38 years until he died of melanoma. True love does exist and it doesn't ever die.

A testament to not going the easy route and chucking it all in but rather, enduring the curve balls life throws you together, for remaining committed to the vows made before God, and for setting the example to the children you bore. My hat is off to you Michael, and for your honoring the sanctity of marriage.

My employer, Mr. D. Hanson told me that Mr. Michael Martin Murphy lived near were I used to milk dairy cows west of town. I have not (yet) found my "Forever Love" here in Western Wisconsin. Here, Im 37 1/2 (in 2021) and I ask myself in my situation, "What is forever for?"

Well for me I just physically got back with my ex wife,from 17 yrs ago.trouble is its taking used to new conditions on both parties.see,the last time she had seen me I was walking and able to work.now I've been in a wheelchair for a lil over 7 yrs now.i love this woman with all my heart and soul.and try everyday,in some how or some way to show her that. Try to do as much as I can around the house and such. And yes,she did say yes again.thank god.. I love you Michelle

There's an anger in Mr. Murphey's delivery here that you don't hear on the record. Maybe it's passion, but it sounds like anger to me. Which is wholly appropriate. People think this a sweet love song. It's not. It's a "what the hell is wrong with you?" song. And it's awesome.

It's more than ironic, however, seeing as how he has been married 5 times. Apparently, he's not one to subscribe to "What's Forever For".

I've been looking at people And how they change with the times; And lately all I've been seeing are people Throwing love away and losing their minds; Maybe it's me that's gone crazy, Cause I can't figure out why; All these lovers keep hurting each other, When good love is so hard to come by; So what's the glory in living? Doesn't anybody ever stay together anymore? And if love never lasts forever, tell me What's forever for? I've been listening to people And they say love is the key; And it's not my way to let them lead me astray; It's only that I want to believe; So what's the glory in living? Doesn't anybody ever stay together anymore? And if love never lasts forever, tell me What's forever for? I see love hungry people tryin' their best to survive, While in their head they dream of romance, If they can keep it alive; So, what's the glory in living? Doesn't anybody ever stay together anymore? And if love never lasts forever, tell me What's forever for?

I see hypocrite mentioned here a lot. Yes he's been married more than once. Does he, having more than one unsuccessful marriage make him a hypocrite? The lyrics in his case make perfect sense. He obviously has regrets and wishes people would realize how lucky they are to love and be loved and stop always thinking the grass is going to be greener on the other side.
@J2000LT4 жыл бұрын
He's been married 5 times, certainly not "what's forever for". Granted he was younger when he wrote this, but it sure makes you wonder what his problem with marriage might be. I'm guessing it's his narcissism. Most famous people who can't/don't stay married are brought down by the famous spouse's narcissism. Just sayin'.

@Rusty36595 жыл бұрын
His follow up song to Wildfire, Carolina In The Pines was actually inspired by his first wife, Carolina. I always wondered if Disenchanted was inspired because that marriage fell apart. And if he's a hypocrite, then that also makes John Denver a hypocrite for writing Annie's Song!
