The first of three Michael May made in Sheffield Pocketknives. I sw this beautiful Bocote wood on his Instagram page, and I just had to have some!

...My late Father always carried and swore by his Lambsfoot blade, so much so I've never been able to quite pull the trigger on one for myself out of some odd sentimentality. But this knife with that fluid wood grain, complimented by the brass, is so reminiscent and evokes so much nostalgia, I'm seriously reconsidering... 🙏

I love the grain in the Bocote wood and the brass is a nice touch. Such a classic knife. The file work looks fantastic.

Tobias Gibson it’s my favourite sort of file work: free! I asked what I owe, and he said “nothing!” It’s a great bit of wood though. Tomorrow’s English Elm looks pretty dull in this company, but it great too.

I got the Ebony and Turquoise Barlow today and I'm amazed at how good it is. I've got several GEC's and this tops them all.

…and it’s a genuine handmade pocketknife, free from water-jets, CNC grinders, tumble polishing, riveting machines and with properly dished liners! Glad you like it!

Great looking knife! I found your channel looking for recipes for roasted lamb.

That bocote looks fantastic. And the file work is a really nice touch. Thanks for your thoughts on this one!

It was what prompted my order. It’s beautiful.

I agree, Brass bolsters are refreshing to see, especially with wood handles. These bocote covers are some of the best I've ever seen. Very common wood used with the Spanish made Puma's!!! Is fingerprinty a word?😂 Well, I just added a Michael May to my very, very long "list"🤦 Good thing I lock up my credit card before I watch your videos Slick, although this beauty looks to be quite a bargain!!

At just £70, it’s a bargain in my book!

I like this style. Do you prefer the Barlow Lambsfoot? Or the plain Lambsfoot?
@slick_slicers Жыл бұрын
That’s like choosing between my children! Probably doesn’t help, but my current favourite May knife is the Clayton Barlow!

I like Michael's take on most of his knife designs, this sheep's foot looks a little chunkier than some but it has a really balanced appearance and on my 32" screen the work looks to be faultless. I would love to see Sheffield knives made with 440C a high performing steel that has stood the test of time.

chris osh if I knew you were going to do that, I’d have uploaded it in 1080hd rather than just 720! I always imagine people watching them on their iPhones. I’d also like to see 440c. Taylor’s use 420hc, which is fine, but I can’t be doing with carbon steels that corrode, sorry patina!

Lambfoot.

That looks delightful. Is Michael's file work on the backspring the same pattern as Lee White's?
@slick_slicers3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but subtly different. The ‘thorns’ are sharper. But as Michael trained Lee, it’s no surprise.

I've never really liked Bocote, but that's a damn good looking knife. Taste is so subjective it's laughable, but I prefer a grain with a burl or a swirl.

Zen Ali it’s not my absolute favourite, but it’s right up there. Some of the best bocote I’ve ever seen.

I think the time has come to move past dutifully mentioning others' opinions on your Michael May knife videos. You've already given them ample airtime in this and previous videos. I'm enjoying your showcasing of Michael May's work and creations and like your views of this beautiful functional knife. I know I'm not with the rest of you on this, but I also like the look of carbon steel, even as it ages.

You might be right, time to move on. I’ve now had 5 with no faults. Unfortunately, I know of several issues. I’ll keep collecting them though.

@@slick_slicers I would not hesitate to buy a Michael May knife and feel more urged to do so following enjoying your videos of his works. Thanks

All Arthur Wright parts so it'll be c70 carbon steel
@slick_slicers2 жыл бұрын
I may be wrong, but i don’t believe that’s correct. What i do know to be true is that May uses a variety of steels as well as C70, but i can never remember which of mine are what. Same with the woods. What i can also say, is that May’s knives, of the same patterns as Wright’s are substantially different, wherever they are sourced from. I’ve quite a few (20+) Wrights to compare.
