Hey thank you for your review. You may not even see this msg as it’s been quite some time since the review. Anyways I’ve just purchased the TK3 and it’s in the post. Really excited and looking forward to receiving it. I have small collection of pocket knives, and this one I would generally give a miss to, as it’s up there price range from my affordable reach. But I figured it’s coming into Christmas, so this will be my gift to self so to speak. And it’s the first Swedish knife I’ll own, but when I seen..made in Japan, that always strikes a note with me regarding quality. Question if I may (here we go says me… the glean of another pocket knife caught my attention 😣) you showed a knife very briefly, it looked like it had rosewood handles and also wonderfully easy to open blade….something…bremmer work knife etc. It was the one you had lanyard on. Would appreciate knowing which model and make it was please. Thanks, Keith.

I agree about the generic oval 'Made in Sheffield' tang stamp. I have an A Wright ettrick stamped with this and it annoys me every time I open it! The later Twisted assisted knives by Wrights have the TA stamp which, although not to everyone's taste, is better than the oval one. A couple of Trevor Ablett knives came up a while ago on our local auction site (I live in New Zealand) and I didn't bid because they had the oval logo. I rather regret it now...

Big knives are fun and bring out the little kid in me. Small knives are functional and practical and actually get things done! The Full Immunity looks like lambsfoot that's been drinking protein shakes and hitting the gym. I like it. "A quality weight!" A good choice of words

What a lovely gift! Martin is an absolute gent for sending it! I saw these earlier this year and really wanted one, but unfortunately, there were too many other knives worth buying at the time, so they got put on the back burner! I love Pewter, and seeing it on a Sheffield knife was delightful. Out of all the blade shape/handle design combinations, I'd say you have the best. (Vintage Pewter + Lambfoot) Overall, that's a stellar knife you have there, and an even kinder gesture by an excellent fellow! Cheers, as always!

That is absolutely gorgeous! While I prefer single bladed knives, I can certainly appreciate the look of a nice twin-blader. The late Mr. Ablett did a rather excellent job on this one, I'd say. Despite having had issues with the Ettricks in the past, I still adore the pattern as a whole. Cheers, as always!

It's not just you, Eric 😂. I hate that made in Sheffield stamp. Older knives I have, every blade is stamped. My only criticism of a Steven Cocker knife I have is that it's not stamped. If I could make a knife as well as these guys, you could guarantee I'd want to stamp it 😂 with pride. That is the exact knife/pattern I missed out on at an auction. It hurt me to watch this. I don't get buyers' remorse. I get the opposite 😅. It fascinates me the old books these guys have. Probably passed down from generation to generation. Of old patterns drawn to scale. Some are probably drawn by a quill in some cases. This was brilliant, Eric 👏

A cracking little knife, one of Benchmades' best for a while. When you get this in hand, you do realise where the money has gone. Its criminal how this tiny little thing is not UK legal carry though. Fun fact, the fancy pivot pattern is the covid 19 spike protein... The blue is nice, but prefer the bronze mind... 😉.! Cheers

I'm glad you liked it, Eric! I sent the slip separately. I thought the slip would have beaten the delivery of the knife. That has a note in it. I agree with you about Julie. Bless her 😂. I think it's definitely cast. But if you can get some info from Taylors, that would be brilliant. I thought they were a goid price point. I watched your Warncliffe whittler video the other day. Brilliant! I saw a lot of Taylors at the Famous Sheffield shop. I should have mentioned them as still making the pattern. Im with you I'm enjoying the pattern at the moment. Im still waiting on my Steven Cocker, and I can't wait 😁. I wanted 'Slick Slicers', but they couldn't fit it on, unfortunately. Cheers, Eric

I like how you said favorite pattern “at the time.” Isn’t Birmingham the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution? I do like pewter but some of the old stuff had lead in it. Hopefully your old flask was lead free! That knife is absolutely beautiful. I love knives such as this! That’s a perfect knife for the office desk or for special occasion.

Things change, especially as I get older. Yes it was, but further north there were some great assets including fast flowing rivers, coal and iron and as things developed there grew up canals and later railways to get goods to Liverpool and on to the rest of the world! Lead in my hip-flask could explain a lot!

@slick_slicers That's a great little thing, but, unfortunately not UK legal carry. I do like slipjoints, and own a few, as I do like to carry and stay within the law of the land. Looking at your back catalogue, I remember that Spyderco Swayback Wharncliffe. That was not uk legal, but a nice modern interpretation. Cheers.

The American Committee for the Defense of British Homes: In the earlier days of WW2, American civillians donated over 20,000 privately owned firearms to the UK Home Guard before Lend Lease. Not to mention funds raised to purchase munitions. And yes, it had a very minor affect to the war effort overall, but please consider moments like this when those gun-toting colonists fight for their gun rights. It's easy to forget after 8 decades of peace and prosperity at home, that our freedoms are never truly secure.

A guy in the USA I have subbed to for years has been doing knife videos... So the Al Gore Rythem popped up with this! Nice knives. Sheffield is my home city, and I used to climb Wharncliffe crags and bike in Wharncliffe woods. So... does the Wharncliffe knife come from Wharncliffe industry of years past? Wharncliffe is by old steel works Deepcar and Stocksbridge. Total blade length for the law... not the cutting edge. Cheers Mr 👊
@slick_slicers13 күн бұрын
It would be too much of a coincidence not to be connected. Lord Wharncliffe was land owner, I believe, to the north of Sheffield. I’m doing my best to do a little to support and promote Sheffield’s knife industry.
@KnifeChatswithTobias18 күн бұрын
A beautiful collection of Wharncliffe Knives. The Steven Cocker Pearl knives are just amazing! I'm amazed by the number of modern knife innovations that developed around the 1830s Happy Birthday D'Arcy! If the knife was made in America, it would be called a Seahorse Half-Whittler. To be honest, "Original Wharncliffe" sound so much better!

As has been said elsewhere, this is “currently” my favourite pattern. I don’t have any split backs, but Steven does make them and I’ll get one one day!

@slick_slicers13 күн бұрын
I have both the first and second versions and each was a step change in RRs output in terms of both design and quality. Good, solid knives!
@IanRosie118 күн бұрын
There's a similarly configured knife, albeit with secondary fleams, in Smith's key of 1816, and there are multi-blade spring knives in L'art du Coutelier... of 1771. So why did this knife in particular need to be invented. What was its purpose? Why could no other folder fulfill the role? On a slightly different note - Kevin Coleman's excellent short history of the Barlow contains the newspaper reports of the legal wars fought out over who had rights to say they made the 'Original Barlow'. One argument made in the 1840 case was that the Barlow had become known as "a particular form of knife, just as the Wharncliffe knife was..." Which makes me wonder if the Wharncliffe was indeed designed from scratch.
@slick_slicers13 күн бұрын
Obviously, I can’t say for certain what happened, but I do think that two or more people could “invent” a similarly shaped knife without it being plagiarism, just coincidence. After all it’s really just a more beefy version of the serpentine knife, with a blade that’s more specialised for whittling. The Sheffield knife industry must have been a pretty cut throat business when they would risk huge sums in litigation over a product name!
@IanRosie113 күн бұрын
@@slick_slicers They'd risk jail too, and the odd hanging. Burning each others forges down, gunpowder rubbed on stones..., it was the Wild West (Riding). Mike Moran has a good small library of public domain resources regarding the Sheffield Industry on his website.
